Well Saturday sees the first break day of the season. My main aim is to not let Mrs Burns know until the last possible minute so she cannot plan anything but already there are questions why I haven’t left yet as it’s Tuesday. Taking Grandson to football as dads working she now thinks. Hopefully it will be wall to wall autumn internationals

Subject to a satisfactory meeting with my Bank Manager, I should be spotted at a well-known hostelry very close to Orpington station, that always has one of their 3 TV screens dedicated to god's game. A good cross-section of past players from various local clubs, non-players who wish they had played, retired referees, represented by each of the home unions with the odd walk-in of dubious characters from the Southern hemisphere. The common denominator ???? -We all end up talking total B.o.ll.ox
.

Watching Portugal v Romania on the laptop and then Now TV for the England game. Thus avoiding drinking 1 million (8) pints.

Getting a $1 tuk tuk from my apartment at about 9pm after I have had a refreshing swim in the roof pool and heading for the Rosslyn Park supporters club in Phnom Penh with 14 screens and local beer at circa $2 a pint - will try to avoid the low grade soccer tourists watching the EPL who will be completely hammered by 10 pm which is 3pm in England and attempt to watch the International with Kiwis and a few English ex pats. The sports bar owner likes the rugby crowd because we are not cheap Charlies who run up a bar tab and then do a runner.
After the antics of the soccer world cup in Russia, the bar owner now insists that the soccer supporters pay as they go. The rugby chaps get superior waitress service and access to traditional rugby grub like bangers and mash and cottage pie. The soccer people eat chips.
In addition we get the rugby commentary in English on a huge screen and the soccer people stare at smaller screens and speak to each other in poor English. Generally they leave us alone when they see the wine and champagne being served. One English tourist guy told me that I made him "puke" - classy eh?
I explained that the premium customers keep the prices low for the non premium customers - just like an airline. This went down like a lead balloon. At this point a huge Australian rugby guy talking to me picked the irritating English soccer tourist up by his collar because the English soccer tourist was disturbing us and threw him out into the street. This is a very different to the situation in the Rosslyn Park Club House back home. I think the lure of a budget price interaction with a local Asian lady attracts those English soccer chaps to Asian drinking establishments???????????
If you're not on the pitch you can't win the game

Driving back home on Saturday to the SW France, will then watch the highlights of England V New Zealand. I have just spent 10 days in the UK mostly stuck in traffic jams from Maidstone to Cardiff to Doncaster and back the whole country is one car park. Terrible.

I too will be watching our second XV I think where possible people should support the lower sides of any club they may be the future of the club (if you have lower sides that is) . With 1st XV teams travelling so far many supporters cannot get to away games. It is also important to support the club's bar where most of the income of a club comes from(other than sponsorship which usually goes straight to the 1st XV squad). Early kick offs can be arranged to ensure the supporters also get the England game.

No games at Bradwall Road this weekend and so we expect a busy clubhouse. Club has just invested in a new projector so game picture on the big screen should be excellent. Might just have to test the Dizzy Blonde. (Hur Hur) Beer
