Ealing just lost a try and their starting 5 for next week when Harry Casson decided to power bomb Pat Cilliers onto his head just as Ealing scored a great try. 14 men for Ealing the rest of the way. Plus Lydon and Jones injured. 26 Irish 12 Ealing 66 minutes.

Wasn't expecting that.
Our first (and only!) 'double' of the season.
And a double on the day too, with Cov 2nds beating Jersey Athletic earlier.
Things are looking up.

Irish 33 - Ealing 12. Game closer than the final score, but Ealing managed the worst of all worlds by not starting a first team, then managing to get one of their usual first teamers a red card when he came in as a replacement. Doh.

Thought it was the 2nd/3rd choice Ealing team.

it ended 46-19 to Pirates at Castle Park. another poor home showing from the Knights i'm afraid. the ridiculous injury situation didn't help us. we ended up with a back rower playing on the wing and I think we were down to 14 men for the last few minutes as we had ran out of subs. however despite this we were pedestrian and slow as we've been all season. next season can only be better.

Brought on as a sub at about 60 minutes. There were 3 first choice players on the bench. Hope was to not use them, but lots of injuries.

It shows how bad we were when a replacement player (Flanker) comes on with 20 to go. He then gets moved to the wing and gets man of the match for us.
Winning isn't everything, it just makes the beer taste better

Great display by Cov, they looked unlikely to prevail when the Reds' claimed a 3rd try just before the hour and it was 20-22, with the strong wind behind them, but it was almost all Cov after that, while the home side ran out of gas - we finished with three defeats on the bounce, just as we started the season. In between was pretty good, which meant we finished fourth.

One of the great days for the Reds was almost exactly 7 years ago, when a large contingent went to Butts Pk Arena and got the win that sealed the Nat 1 title and promotion. It was our day and we celebrated loud and long. Although yesterday's prizes were only league positions, the boot was firmly on the other foot this weekend, and I hope the Cov players and supporters enjoyed their day and night.

The Red is rescinded ! and he is allowed to play !, does that mean that a yellow should have been given or not ?. Ealing had just scored a TRY and it was not given for the foul play or no foul play.

Harry Casson of Ealing Trailfinders appeared before an independent disciplinary panel last night.

Casson was shown a red card by referee Christophe Ridley in the 65th minute of the Greene King IPA Championship match between London Irish and Ealing Trailfinders on 27 April 2019. This was for acting in a manner that was dangerous and/or reckless contrary to Law 9.11.

The independent two-person panel chaired by Aidan O’Brien with Paula Carter dismissed the red card and the player is free to play with immediate effect.

Panel chair Aidan O'Brien said: “The panel heard evidence from the player, the Ealing Director of Rugby and the RFU and were able to review the footage at the same time in full time, slow motion and frame by frame.

"The player was able to demonstrate that his actions were not reckless or dangerous but instead the result of being driven off the ruck by the London Irish player and their combined force causing them both to go to ground as they did.

"The panel accept that on first view of this incident the player appears to be controlling the action but were satisfied after careful analysis that his actions did not meet the red card threshold nor did they amount to foul play. In the circumstances of there being no act of foul play, the red card was dismissed and the player is free to play with immediate effect”

Ambition should be made of sterner stuff.
