Another issue some players develop later than others ! I saw a player playing Fri that I am aware of who has improved beyond recognition . Could he move up with some help yes I think he could . The standard was very good it bought a big crowd out to watch Rugby on a bad night and it was a very good game. For Rugby Win Win .

Well I can’t imagine that the junior clubs would see it that way.
Surely once the lads step into this ‘representative’ environment then the next step is to a senior club

If you were in a Position of management would you hold a player back
? If he had the ability and the desire to move up ?

It seems to me that the clubs who are looking after their players "interests" in terms of their possible aspiration and potential etc are the ones putting them onto a bigger stage while the ones who don't have their own reasons.

It was ever thus and my guess is that any representative appearance is a great opportunity to show what you can do in front of your family, your friends, your peers, selectors and scouts et al - it was ever thus and a system that many would say is preferable to, for example, the dreaded academy system foisted upon rugby by the Premiership.

If you love and respect them let them go ......  counselled, challenged and guided by our County Representatives, the RFU needs to ensure that the hard work and commitment of "feeder" clubs to the development of players at every level is recognised and rewarded for their contribution to the promotion and playing of our great game at every level - now that's the challenging bit Stern Smile

We may get into trouble for going off topic. But I am sure Waterloo have an interest in this subject they had released players although one could not play through injury. But I believe it is a useful exercise and judging on Friday a huge success well done all involved. I personally find it very interesting .

hmmm...... again not what Lancs think its all about and in fact I'm told players who played last season all but three are at the same club, 2 have gone to clubs at a lower league level and one has moved to another club in the league above hardly an exercise in recruitment for the upper echelons.

Looking at the Royals Team that was posted on the Lancs Social media it breaks down 1 player from Level 5, 6 from L6, 5 from L7, 9 from L8 and 4 from L9 good cross section.

How can you be good enough to represent your county playing at Levels 8 & 9?? Just about sums up where county rugby sits in the scheme of things. Complete waste of time that means absolutely nothing and as some have already pointed out stepping stone to nowhere

Dead easy if that's what it is aimed at. You seem to be missing the point, the Community County XV is just exactly that. Who said it was stepping stone to anywhere?

County rugby despite what some say is alive and well certainly in the North, the South West and London & South East, Midlands maybe not as much.......

Ok PiffPaff fair point but please read back over several posts where it was suggested it was an opportunity for players to put themselves in the shop window and get recruited by bigger clubs and certainly there have been references to shopping lists

I didn't even know there was Level 9 rugby. How can you be representing anything if that's your level?

The shopping list was just a poor attempt at humour but all clubs have the odd star who with better players and better Coaching could improve dramatically !!! You never say never

I guess that you're representing the level you're at against similar levels from a geographical area outside your own alongside guys and gals that you've played against all season.

I think it's a great idea for any one of a number of reasons ranging from simple recognition of your talent thru reward for the contribution to your club/team and all the way on to a chance to showcase talent in whatever league you're representing to watchers from other leagues and/or areas.

It's almost certainly also a pretty good social experience with an opportunity to see how the other half live and return the compliment.  If we re in any way serious about keeping more people involved in our game be it as as players, spectators and alecadoos, it has to be at every level and this must surely help do that so, bring it on ClapClapClap
