Not only was Rob in the squad at Sale Sharks.  Carl Fearns (age 19) a former mini and junior player started the game at No, 8. Carl was a regular for years at Waterloo prior to him playing at Sedburgh, then England u18 (as Captain).

As much as i want Cakes back, why should he after the way he was treated at the end of the year? He started last year as captain and did a good job of it, then his unfortunate accident and Duffy took over (not saying he wasn't a good replacement) but what recognition did Cakes get at the end of the year? Nothing, so i wouldn't be surprised if he didnt want to come back.

I hear Cakes was training last night with Waterloo.  I am looking forward to the pre season game this week but why on earth has it not been advertised on the club website

Along with Birkenhead, Caldy has a big contingent of ex-waterloo players too. I'll be watching both games with interest.

A disgracefull performance by Waterloo, totally outplayed and were lucky it wasn't more. Forwards were a joke, who got pushed around all day. Doesn't look good for the season a head

Birkenhead Park are in North 1.  It was the worst performance i have ever seen by any Waterloo side. I believe that they need at least 5 new forwards and a new pair of half backs. We can have all the pace in the world in the centres and wings but if you are playing behind a second rate pack and poor half backs your doomed. Well played to Park and all the ex players looked well up for the match.

I also watched the game. It was very disappointing from our point of view. As most people seemed to fear, it was confirmed that we no longer have a pack to compete in Nat 2. Our backs (with whom our salvation seems to lie) were completely nullified by a very good Brirkenhead defence. Only freeman's (welcome back!) powerful thrusts in midfield caused them any incovenience at all.

However probably the most frustrating aspect of the day, is watching the Ex waterloo players dominate the game for Birkenhead. CJ, Andy trotter and Cheeky all punched huge holes in us, whilst Biff and Blythey completely ran the whole show from 10 and 8.
I appreciate that it maybe ancient history in some people minds, but questions are still unanswered as to why our promtion team of 2 seasons ago is now plying it's trade (very successfully) all over the northwest - specifically Birkenhead, Caldy and Fylde, Whilst most them live within 10 miles or so of Blundellsands.

Methinks the Prickly Pearen bagpipe, who is now conspicuous by his absence has a lot to answer for.

In answer to Big Daddy - we need 5 new forwards.

I've no doubt the club will do it's usual trick of bringing in well paid big blokes from Wales / Spain / Italy / Sale loan players...however what about these names? Ring any bells?

Dan Palmer, Chris Tymms, Darren Clarke, Dave Blyth, Nikil TChoukie ?, Chris Jones, Dan Smith, Paul White, Dave Mercer...That's 10 for you who walk into the current team - and guess where they all live!

Jamie, I completely argee with you.

We need these players back...not the well paid loan players, we need players who are commited to the club and are committed to playing week in, week out.

I think we need these players back, if anything to bring back that saturday feeling of watching our local club perform. Also, to help commit the youngesters to coming up through the ranks, 1. so we have back up players who are commited  2.so they can play for there local club at a decent level.
Look at John Nugent, he was a local boy, commited to the club, came through the ranks of waterloo and where is he now?! France ...
If we have any chance of surviving, we need to start encouraging the locals back!
