Eastern Counties captain Gideon Rossouw has been suspended for 29 weeks last night after being found guilty of bringing the game into disrepute by a Rugby Football Union disciplinary hearing.

The North Walsham hooker admitted to verbal abuse and threatening actions towards match official Revis Phillips at the County Championship Plate final between Durham and Eastern Counties on May 26.

He was banned for four weeks for former offence, 25 weeks for the latter and will be free to play again on January 21, 2008.

Rossouw was charged under RFU rule 5.12 which covers "actions prejudicial to the interests of the Union or the Game".

The case was heard at the Coventry M6 Holiday Inn by a panel of Robert Horner (chairman), Colin Kolbert and John Brennan.

Its a disgrace when the referee called Mr Rossouw a few obscenities himself.  He gets no ban I see

Unlucky for whoever he plays for next season.  Him + our two props have either retired, moved on or gone back to their feeder clubs.
