It’s a dreadful song to sing in all honesty. HQ has a dreadful atmosphere, mostly full of people updating their Instagram stories during the game rather than watching it - let alone singing it.

At the famous 38-38 England Scotland game in 2019, my dad and I were so disillusioned with the ‘atmosphere’ from the English, my dad spoke to Northumberland as our county rep about creating a singing section. I don’t think it was acted upon by our RFU Council member but it should be looked at.

I’d rather sit/stand with various members of clubs up and down the country, having a laugh, a sign song and plenty of beer as opposed to being surrounded by people who barely know the laws of rugby, spend more time on their phone and feel aghast at singing anymore than the first two lines of Swing Low.

As much as I disagree with the sentiment of banning the song, if it opens up a discussion on how to improve the lack of atmosphere at Twickers, I’m all for it.

"Clearly the obvious choice is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHPOzQzk9Qo"

Good shout that one, have a couple of lead singers belting out the Eric Idle Huckleberryney intro before 60,000 chime in with the chorus of "Always look on the.....
Great for the crowd to whistle and move to on the Dee Dum, dee Dum Ti Ti Dum bit too.......
goes off to count dees and dums.....
Come on Jersey........

Given the planned restrictions on tickets I fear that might be a long wait before any real rugby fans get back to HQ. Got to get the debenture holders and sponsors in first!

There's no talk of "banning" the song, indeed Martin Offiah is on record as saying it should not be banned. Flower of Scotland however is under scrutiny due to it condoning violence apparently, cue the Scots singing it even louder if they do try to ban it.

Not to mention anti-English.
Also a complete dirge.

Plus it's just a pop-song from the 60s.

Agree about Flower of Scotland - like the haka, very warlike but then

There'll always be an England
While there's a country lane,
Wherever there's a cottage small
Beside a field of grain.
There'll always be an England
While there's a busy street,
Wherever there's a turning wheel,
A million marching feet.
"My father told me big men fall just as quick as little ones, if you put a sword through their hearts."

The English, well we have an American Negro spiritualist  song, written by an indigenous, freed American slave, that it synonymous with onanist actions.

I love the Welsh one about the girl with a bad finger, the big saucepan and the little saucepan and the tea set left in a ditch.........so stirring .

I know people thought this was a crazy suggestion but not so crazy now because it turns out the RFU are actually asking if it should be banned. In their "diversity and inclusion survey" https://www.englandrugby.com/news/article/diversity-and-inclusion-survey, they have actually included a question asking if it should be banned.

Of course, naturally such a ban cannot be enforced but it is scary that our governing body is trying to take away our rugby traditions. I trust the majority of people who fill out this survey will tell them where to insert such a suggestion.

Saw that. Couldn't believe it.
I did not, and still do not, associate the same level of importance to the singing of this match day song in support of the national team as I would to the RFU redundancies and the severe funding cuts for grassroots rugby.
Hopefully, common sense will prevail.

Common sense mostly prevails against the PC non-rugby fans. Granted we have some silly concession but no-one will care about it.

Yes, probably a page in the over-priced programme with an explanation of the origins and hopefully, for the ignorant, the full wordings
