The Secretary of State has decided not to call in the West Langarth Development that will fund the new Stadium in Truro.
Minister Greg Clarke has given the go ahead for the Enabled Development next to the Stadium site. It is planned to start construction of the Multi purpose Stadium4Cornwall in Spring 2016. The complex will have a 4G pitch and will house the Penwith & Truro College Catering Academy who will assist in running the Hospitality & Conference Centre. It has taken 8 years of hard work by the S4C Partners and the S4C campaign group to achieve this milestone. Great day to see the Naysayers and Dinosaurs defeated. So any other Club thinking of going down the same road "Never give up".

This is a pivotal day for The Pirates. Makes it even more imperative that we stay in this league and start to build towards the move for the 2017 season. Ian Davies, his coaching team and his talented squad will be busting a gut to ensure we maintain our Championship status. The next couple of years will be an exciting time to be a Pirate! ARRRGGGHH!

Somewhere on this forum, someone's head just exploded!

A couple of questions:

 - Has a supermarket partner been secured yet?

 - Is the target opening date still August 2017?

Sorry i can not answer your questions. You best ask Inox/Henry Boot the developers. For your interest the Planning Permission granted is not just for a Supermarket it is a much larger complex for other retailers as well.

According to Pirates Chairman Ian Connell on the radio today we are on track to be playing in the new stadium for 2017/18 season.

A big step forward for the Stadium.  Be interesting to see if it gets built by the date suggested seeing as Inox haven't put a spade in the ground yet for the 1500 house they have had permission to build for a couple of years or so.

I think that entirely depends on the Developers priorities. Good luck guys, but I suspect the Stadium might not be first on the list. Did they provide a development schedule as part of their submission, and, if so can they be held to it?

All the best anyway!

I don't think that the housing development has much to do with it. I would imagine that the stadium construction would happen independently.
Having said that, these things always seem to take longer than planned so I have my doubts about it being ready for the start of the 17/18 season. I hope I'm wrong, but in the scheme of things we've waited so long that a few more months won't be the end of the world.
At the moment our focus needs to be staying in the Championship!

There has been a lot of documentation released into the public domain on the S4C project. I am pretty sure that the stadium is in the 1st phase build and that neither the retail or housing developments will start until the stadium has been completed.

If they build the Stadium before anything else then that's a serious bit of borrowing.
Good luck to the Pirates on their Stadium but as somebody who works at the hospital I'm not looking forward to the road works on it's main access route.  The very minor works undertaken recently caused major traffic problems with patients and staff being seriously held up going to the hospital.  The whole re-development along the road (not just the Stadium) fills me (and everybody I speak to at the hospital) with dread.  What were the council thinking when they allowed all of this development to go ahead.  What is it 2000 houses, 3 (or is it 4) separate commercial developments and the Stadium on the most congested road in Cornwall.

Just remembered the Truro FC Stadium as well!

Red Ted,
Remember there is the Treliske relief road which is planned as part of the stadium development. This should help with the traffic flow in the area.

PP, I was thinking more about during the construction stage of all the projects which will go on for years, especially the access roads..  The relief road may help a bit but only when everything is built.

Sorry, but if you live or work in or near the city, it's part of life to be subject to this kind of thing. Nobody likes it, but unless you're going to stand still (which means falling behind) stuff has to be built. It's exciting times for Truro - a massive 17 million (don't get me started) is to be spent on refurbishing the Hall For Cornwall theatre and now there will be a state of the art stadium. This will mean a massive boost for the economy around Truro and all over the Duchy.

Truro is the Capital City of Cornwall. Where else would you put your National stadium but in the Capital??

A bit quicker by train too but I suspect it will take longer from the station than the walk along the front at Penzance (via the Dock Inn). I will miss Penzance but look forward to my first visit to the new S4C and wish Pirates well for the future. Its more essential they avoid Relegation.
Dont kick it. Pick it up and GO FORWARD.

The Stadium is being built next to the Park & Ride and the buses run every 10 mins from City Centre and the Railway Station. Good pub local to the ground as well. Stadium will have a restaurant managed by the Penwith & Truro College who will have their Academy based at the Stadium. I think it will be named the Rick Stein Catering Academy.

I have to admit (to my shame) that I couldn’t place Truro on a map….so had a google and now know!

According to Wikipedia (I know...but I find it useful!) "Truro is a city and civil parish in Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. Truro is Cornwall's county town and only city, its centre for administration, leisure and retail and had a population recorded in the 2011 census of 18,766.It is the most southern city in mainland Great Britain."

A pretty good reason for the stadium to be based there. When you see population figures like 18k (less than most suburban outposts of Birmingham), you suddenly realise how important it is that Cornwall continues to punch above its (population) weight for the health of English rugby.

Bill thanks for the kind words.
Truro is about to double in size and population. Planning Applications for houses alone near the Stadium site have been approved running into thousands. Ryanair are coming and Flybe  fly into Newquey Airport and its rumoured Easyjet are coming as well. Truro has a very nice Cathedral in the centre and the Theatre is going to spend 17.5 million pounds on renovation . The good progress is putting the Pirates under a lot of pressure to survive in the Championship  due to the Stadium announcement last week.
If you decide to come down for a game in Truro we should meet and have a pint of Cornish Real Ale your choice is Tribute Doom Bar or Betty Stoggs.
By the way i dont work for the Cornwall Tourist Board as we dont have one it was scrapped due to Cornwall Council cutbacks!
