5 a side on a small pitch to reinvigorate the game. Wow!

I saw the marketing for this in my social media feed this morning.

Not sure if it'll work as a concept; to me it just smacks of the money men trying to extract more cash from the rugby market. I'm happy to be proved wrong, but that's what it feels like.

Agreed.
Ben Ryan inventing his own job.
5 a side rugby will be as physically demanding as 7 a side despite a smaller pitch ( more collisions because of the pitch size ?). A solution to a problem that doesn't exist if you exclude the general participation question.
Play 7 a side on a smaller pitch if its schools that you are pitching it to.
Its a short lived  gimmick.

I don't think it's necessarily a bad idea. Obviously the aim isn't to take away from the existing rugby but rather add to it.

Remains to be seen whether this will take off, but the reason football is so popular around the globe is its simplicity. This is in essence a simplified version of rugby that hopefully spreads the appeal.

It's great to see different teams having the ability to compete at sevens i.e Kenya, Fiji, USA and now Spain. Despite their claims, world rugby isn't really that interested in spreading the 15s game. With the exception of USA and Japan (because they bring potential TV audiences and advertisers)

Rugby X was part of the U15s and U18s Girls County format this season along with 15 a side and 7 a side all on the same day.

The RFU made sure that all were told X was a great sucess and all enjoyed it.

Every girl I spoke to really did not like it along with most coaches who also thought it absolutly pointless.

With all the fast backs playing 7s one of the girls who's a forward described X as 7s for fatties.

That was x7's and it was universally hated - tap and go for all pens and restarts the refs just couldnt keep up with the play, saw many neck rolls etc. Also they suddenly decided between 2nd and 3rd round of girls county restivals to bring in lineouts rather than a free pass from the side

RFU come up with these ideas and then spin them to look good, lets concentrate on 15 a side
