Cov threw away a second bonus point by not taking an easy 3 points in front to the posts in the dying minutes. Poor decision on the pitch, especially as despite having three long periods camped out on the Nottingham 5m line taking repeated scrums before and after half time, and again late in the match, and again approaching full time it was clear that the referee was never going to award a penalty try, and was perfectly happy to allow scrums to be repeatedly reset - to the extent that it was only two minutes after the scrum on which the hooker was sin-binned was completed that he was queuing up to come back in. It the meantime it had been repeatedly been reset, each time 5m to one side or the other of its previous position.

Overall, Nottingham deserved their tries, being more clinical in the loose. Will Maisey’s try for Coventry was a beaut, well worth seeing when the highlights appear, and the parts of the game where cynical time wasting (aided and abetted by the referee who could have stopped it early in) didn’t occur were good exciting stuff.

Mond 7 - 38 Jersey FT 6 tries to 1. Sadly watched by less than 400 which speaks volumes as to what the paying public think of this competition.

Ealing 29 - Scottish 18
Finally a ref that applied the experimental new tackle law to the letter - and totally killed the game as a spectacle. The most innocuous chest tackles were being penalised accompanied by a number of yellow cards. Both sides completely bewildered by the end.
Speak softly, but carry a big stick.

2307 at Blues, a decent crowd considering the general lack of interest.

Those who didn't bother to go missed a good game Brizzer. Jersey were definitely better but Mond were competititive up front and although they ultimately gave up 6 tries defended well. That was as good as I have seen Jersey play in years. Great hospitality and touch line banter - HOWAY Jersey win this cup.
Dont kick it. Pick it up and GO FORWARD.

I hope so. I wasn’t having a pop at Mond BTW, just registering some real regret that more didn’t come to watch a good game. I listened to it on the radio and it sounded like a very fine contest. Mond got into the Jersey 22 more in the 2nd half and with a bit more luck and without an interception or 2 could have made it uncomfortable for Jersey at the very least. This was no one sided affair as it was in Jersey a week ago.

Heard thru the grapevine that ref in the Yorks derby game is being checked for RSI after dishing out 7 YCs. Any details?
Come cheer up, my lads - 'tis to glory we steer!

I thought there was a marked improvement in defence . LONDON Scottish had lengthy periods of attack but Ealing defended very well indeed.

The scrums were an absolute lottery with no obvious reasons to the award of penalties to equally both sides.

Ealing showed real adventure in the first half having gained the try bonus point. The second half was flat and lackluster.

Scottish support was incredibly low even for the cup.
Ambition should be made of sterner stuff.

Abysmal 2nd half by The Blues. Simple errors against a side of quality players will get punished. The large crowd enjoyed a fascinating 1st half, in which The Blues defended magnificently, to hold a well deserved HT lead. Pity concentration lapsed so much in the 2nd.   This allowed Irish to get on the front foot, with the big boys causing havoc through the 12/13 channels. I can’t see us going further in this competition; two must win games, Pirates (home) Hartpury (away), is a big ask.

I reckon Bedford could win both those games - they've beaten Pirates at The Mennaye in the league and the cup game was very close. Hartpury are a decent team, but Bedford should win that one too.
Pirates only just scloquat the win at Hartpury yesterday with the last play of the game.

it says 6 x yellows in TRP, 3 each. Doesn't say what they were for, but DK were down to 12 after cards in 63rd, 66th & 70th minute. YksCarn scored & converted a try after 68 mins having trailed 13-18 - final score of the game...
