Great effort by Bedford - tough luck not getting anything from the game. Pirates were slightly off their game early on, but were excellent in the second half, scoring some lovely tries including a hat trick from fullback Moyle.
Looking forward to LI coming to The Mennaye.

I get it's just meant to be a summary of the round, but just copy and pasting tweets is poor.

Yes, but doesn't that just about sum up the Championship in the eyes of the RFU?

I'm surprised the RFU haven't streamed a match from each round. There are some great match ups in R4-6 which I would like to see - Irish away in Penzance & Bedford should be cracking games & Blues v Pirates could be a cliff hanger.

Some more hightligts from Coventry.

Another try-fest at the BPA this Saturday. Not quite so pretty as the previous week, with the Cov forwards gettomg two of theior seven try haul, but a hat-trick for Max Trimble, and a second try for Dan Lewis in only his second appearance (and his first start).

Highlights of the Jersey - Mond game from Youtube.
Richmond literally mauled to death before Jersey unleashed the backs in the 2nd half. A strong finish from Mond should give them some heart for the return leg this coming weekend.

It depends so much on what team Mond pick. Most of the first choice players are being 'rested' and most of the team from Saturday are Vikings regulars. In the circumstances I think they did well. The Vikings team , composed I assume of second and third teamers, beat Oxford University pre intervarsity pretty soundly on Saturday. However they also beat Cambridge by a similar score so the intervarsity looks like being a good contest.
These matches do provide excellent experience. The Jersey rolling maul juggernaut will have taught the less experienced players something, even if it's just being careful about giving a way penalties.

A huge pity imo when selection policy leads to a miss-match and is it any wonder that the attendance at St Peter was below 1000. A real contest between Mond & Jersey's first choice teams which particularly in the forwards are well matched could be a cracking game of rugby with a tight result like the league match last month. I've already paid for my air ticket for the return leg on Saturday but would genuinely rather see my team narrowly beaten in a full on contest with Mond than watch another miss-match and take 5 points. Clubs regularly complain that the RFU don't promote this competition but they should take some responsibility themselves when selection policy leads to no one turning up to see the games.

Errr Reality check.....this was not a first choice Jersey Reds side either. Possibly...and I repeat possibly, this is the first 'true squad' of players that we have had since moving up to the Championship.
By true squad, I mean that if, as and when the first choice pick is not available the replacements are, pretty much, just as good and the impact on the side is minimal.
Last season I think that we had a fantastic 22. This season I think that we have a fantastic 30 plus.

Yes, a bold statement, but it is there to be proved wrong.

In this competition any side can only go out and play/beat the side that has been put out against them. Following a thrashing, it is easy to say that we had a 2nd string side out, but who is to say that a 1st choice side would not have been beaten as well?

Maybe Mond, Ealing and LS will play their first choice players against us in the 2nd phase of group games and maybe they will beat us, maybe they won't, but until they do we will never know.

BRING IT ON!!!!!

Cheers M728 - I have a noon lunch date on Saturday opposite Richmond Station with a nonagenarian lady but should arrive at the ground by 1.50 - happy to trade a ticket for Jersey beer if I can find you in the throng at the ground. I think there is a fundamental difference between Jersey rotating selection among their small full time professional squad and Richmond Vikings who normally play Jersey Athletic. I would always rather see a close competitive match and if Jersey & Mond select their best teams that is exactly what should be on offer and the best team on the day would win.
