Good match in spite of all the penalties - Mond did surprisingly well with only six first team regulars. Ealing very lively in the second half.

Not the first poor comment re Mr Richards in the past few weeks.

Strange in that he is an ex-Premiership ref.

Yes making that kind of mistake makes you wonder about his concentration.

A bit quick to write off the Pirates Hoffee - they had a proud tradition in the B&I and can't imagine they'd be taking part in the CC to make up the numbers. They began with a decent win over Bedford, today's loss was against the league leaders, away from home, and don't forget 8 clubs qualify for the QFs, so 3 wins and a reasonable crop of BPs could potentially put a club in the mix for the KO stages...

A reasonably comfortable win for the Reds on Saturday (if there is such a thing). TBH LS showed a huge amount of spirit, following their travel woes, and really came out firing on all cylinders. However, they began to run out of a bit of steam towards the end of the first half and never really looked like getting back into the game, despite seeing lots of the ball, and the Jersey defense consistently pinned the LS attack down and pushed it backwards.
5 rolling maul tries said more about the Scots ability to defend the maul rather than Jersey's attacking options/ability. If something is working, why change it.
A quick word on Sir. I think that he had a decent game and grew into it as the game went on. He stamped his authority on the game early on, awarding LS penalties at the first 2 scrums, but did try to let the game flow. 3 yellows were all just about right (the YC for the high tackle would not have been a penalty in a league game let along a YC...not his fault though, those are the rules for this competition). A late (possibly high) challenge was missed on the Jersey Full Back after he had kicked through, but I would say that this was more the AR's job to keep an eye out for 'afters' especially as it happened right in front of him. Early days for him as a ref at this level, but he did ok and we have certainly seen worse.
Overall, a straight forward home win, but LS will play a lot better than that in the return fixture and I expect that to be a very close affair.

Rumor mill!

I talked to someone who was on the London Scottish flight to Jersey on Saturday.

Apparently the LS boys didn't eat breakfast as they were up at 4.30am to get the flight and were expecting to chow down in Jersey when they were due to land at around 9am.

Ravenous they destroyed a couple of boxes of biscuits on board the plane as they were naturally running on fumes! As soon as they touched down at around 2pm they had to wait for their gear, peg it to the ground, shovel in whatever food they could at St Peter and warm up pre game for a 2.30pm kick off!

Poor LS. No wonder they ran out of steam. Next time pack a few boxes of protein bars!!!
Jeeeeerseeeeeeey!!!

OR better  stil when it is known in advance that there is fog then delay the ko by a couple of hours so as to give the visiting team a breather so as to try and even things up a bit.[

Delaying too much potentially brings in problems with llight and with the return journey, assuming the side are not staying over.

No issues with light as we have floodlights. LS wanted to k/o early so that they could make their flight back out that evening. HT was even reduced to 5 minutes.

Everything was against LS on Saturday - it will be a much closer match at the RAG in December - they are a far better side than the score line suggests. I spoke to a couple of the match officials and they also reported an horrendous travel experience. One of those days when fortune and circumstances certainly favoured the home club but I am sure these things even out and I remember another occasion at the RAG when the Jersey squad were hit with a stomach bug and one of their back row who was playing for Briz yesterday couldn't be prized out of the toilet at half time. Great effort by both teams in the circumstances and I am sure LS will get their chance to impress in the return leg.
Dont kick it. Pick it up and GO FORWARD.

Was not sure if you had lights - not made it over to the club yet.

I would love to come and support Cambridge 2nd XV next month, but need to prize the offspring out of her pit of despond and bring her home for Christmas.

From last season's report, and we had travel difficulties, sounds like I am missing out on a party.

Everbody is forgetting one important factor
It does not matter if both clubs agree a later time it cannot not be approved if the officials have booked their flights home

If you don't like a rolling maul or if you are the LS forwards coach, I wouldn't look at this link.

For everyone else, here are the highlights from Jersey - LS (in glorious sunshine!! )

If you want to see a lot (11) of tries, mainly by the backs (10), watch this instead. Or, go directly to it here

Some top tries there. The pick for me was the early one through the hands to score in the corner (I think Cov's 1st try). Really good, quick hands.
Can't believe that YC did all of that hard work to get back to 32 a piece only for their defense to go for an early pint leaving signs saying 'try line this way'!!
Very entertaining.

Yes, Max Trimble’s first of the day. Started with the real heavies, and then went through most of the backs.
We were spoiled last season scoring far too many tries like that - but it was good to see the backs gelling again to score seven tries again.
