There's no doubt that those clubs coming into National 1 from above have found it an enjoyable rugby environment and less onerous financially.

The Championship has lost its way courtesy of the ever lucid RFU.

Thoughts on on the back of a postcard.

It’s strange as you also manage to live by your own merits and not starve grassroots of vital funding

To ring fence this would deprive the smaller clubs in N3 of the chance to dream. One thing I always love about the English system is that there is a clear pathway for any club to go from the bottom of county leagues to the Prem if they play well enough. Hartpury College, London Scottish and Richmond have proved it can be done and done sustainably. Why should the lower league clubs be penalised just because of the current Championship's financial ineptitude?

Not this old rubbish again.

Why not go back to merit tables and playing clubs which provide the best pre match meal?

As a supporter of one of the many National 1 clubs in with a chance of promotion at this early stage of the season, I'd remain to be convinced that the Championship would offer a more enjoyable rugby experience. The huge gaps in the season filled with lowly regarded cup games and enforced scheduling of games on Friday nights and Sundays don't seem attractive to me. If the Championship was expanded and the Cup jettisoned, that might be a more enjoyable improvement.

Interested to hear what the denizens of the Championship think.

Twas tongue in cheek Richard but there is a feeling that promotion to the Championship has few benefits and many drawbacks, especially financial.

Perhaps National One is just a great league at the moment. Why spoil it with that nasty promotion stuff.....

The Championship can afford to go to 14 and not devalue the standard.  However, the real issue is that most clubs would not want 14 as they would be financially worse off spreading the funding than having the extra 2 home games.

I'm not sure which clubs would be better off, but certainly Blues and Coventry would be.  Current Average attendance are:

Expanding Championship to 14, 26 meaningful league matches leaving gaps to avoid clashing with a couple of home international matches and a 2 week break at Xmas would be ideal. Unfortunately the RFU will not pay the extra £1 million plus required to fund the expansion and with only 2 current Championship clubs in the black at the end of the season none of these are going to vote for the current cake to be divided into 14 pieces. So next season we will still have 22 Championship matches with the unloved cup and National One will have 30 league matches ensuring the winning team is the one with the largest squad/the least injuries. With RFU funding for Championship ending at end of 2019/20 the key question then will be are the RFU going to fund the Championship at all after that season?
One day this pain will make sense to you

The question is what is the Championship for.
Is it ever going to be a second fully professional league?
Is it simple the best semi-pro league?

If the latter, why should its clubs receive 10 times the funding given to National 1?

The reason for cutting it to 12 was to reduce the mismatches.
If it expands would they recur.

Of course if you promote the current top 4 in Nat 1 you get Blackheath, Old Elthamians, Rosslyn Park and Chinnor - which would increase the London bias.

Allegedly this was the case, but if you also promoted two or more teams to the premiership to make that a 14/16 team league I don't think the mismatches would be too bad.

That won't happen - pie split too many ways, hence talk of 13 rather than 14 teams (who in their right mind would want an odd number of teams?)
