I am no fan of the RFU blazer brigade and Will Carling's description sadly still remains largely accurate in my experience. However the decision to strip two privileged members of their status because they dared to criticise the RFU is shocking. Francis Baron concluded there had been ‘poor financial management’ and Graeme Cattermole questioned the accuracy of the RFU’s financial forecasts. The RFU have just publicly posted a £30.9 million loss for 2017-18 and have admitted allowing Eddie Jones to overspend his budget by £900,000 in 12 months. The cost of the East Stand rose from approximately £50 million to over £80 million. The comments of Baron and Cattermole are simply accurate. Instead of holding their hands up and saying we got it wrong to the 54 people they made redundant the RFU Council have banished the critics in an effort to silence them and prevent investigation of the financial mess. At least the CEO, previously the FCO, had the dignity to walk away before the figures came out. And these are the people who talk about RFU core values including teamwork, discipline and respect. Very sad.

Indeed. It says something about the RFU that they can actually make Francis Baron look good in this farce.

However, the removal of these benefits (presumably normally for life) means they may save the job of another employee?

I wonder how many other ex-suits at the RFU receive similar benefits?

On the other hand it is blatant censorship of people's views as others who might speak up have been given a warning of the consequences of stepping out of line.

Just have to wonder how the RFU, its constituent bodies, our clubs etc would perform if assessed against https://www.leadinggovernance.com/blog/nolan-principles-20-years - The Nolan Principles - first published nearly a quarter of a century ago and still an effective and relevant reference point when assessing quality and effect of governance in more or less any sphere including rugby.

The real issue is the capitulation of the RFU to the Premiership clubs under the PGA and being forced to pay the majority of the income to 12 clubs whilst the grassroots are left to wither.

The removal of benefits from alickadoos is minimal in comparison.

When the PGA comes up for renewal, the RFU must take steps to ensure the same mistakes aren't made again.

While that deal is a huge burden, the costs of Twickenham, the overspend by Jones, the sudden sacking of minions etc suggest a far more fundamental problem with visionary, strategic and tactical management of our game with much of that apparent in the general attitudes displayed toward and treatment of lesser mortals ie those employed or without blazers.

That said, we oiks also have a to hold our hands up for sending some of these guys upstairs as their reward for good service to their county, university or branch of the armed forces to make the decisions they do while quaffing their beers, forking their roast beef and enjoying the view from the halfway line while reminiscing about how much better things used to be.

If I sound disenchanted, disaffected and angry, it's simply because that's exactly what I am Disapprove
