As you will know there is a ladder in operation on this site - "The Ladder system enables your members to move up forum groups automatically depending on the number of posts they make. Once a member has made the minimum amount of posts for a Ladder User Group that member will be moved up to that user group." The groups currently in use are Academy player - upto 29 posts. First XV squad 3- 59 posts. First XV regular 60 - 149 posts. British and Irish Lion - 150-299 posts World Cup Winner above 300 posts. It appears that I can add further groups. Do you have any suggestions to what these should be? For example, should I include a 'Barbarian' and 'Capped for your country' groups between First XV and British and Irish Lion? Should World Cup winner be the highest or should there be something above? Or should I replace the current groups with something totally new? Colt 0-24
Academy player 25- 74
1st XV Cap 75-124
1st XV Regular 125-174
County Cap 175-224
Barbarian 225- 274
International Cap 275- 324
B&I Lion 325- 374
World Cup Winner 375- 449
Rugby legend 450+
In addition anyone who has a post removed due to innapropriate language, slander etc to be relegated a level - otherwise could get to be a rugby legend by posting errant nonsense

Whatever 'sensible' level you put on, people will exceed it fairly rapidly: it is a persistent problem for posting ladders. |

This is sensible but why not increase the spacing between them to cater for the posters who contribute most so it does not simply run out of promotions so quickly and they have nowhere to go.
I know it's not of the utmost importance in life but why ignore the most solid contributors.

What about...
Local league player 0-30
Regional league player 30-74
National 2 player 75-124
National 1 player 125-174
Championship player 175-224
Premiership player 225-274
international A 275-324
Full international 325-374
British Lion 375-449
World cup winner 450-749
Legend 750+
Then you could make it more exciting by giving us a large sum of money once we get into the championship and and even bigger sum of money for getting to the premiership.
you could also get us to email you, our bank accounts every month and if we go overdrawn, you can kick us down a few levels (level to be determined by the size of the debt)

Ok, being more serious. This is a perennial problem with discussion boards and a scale like this only recognizes effort. It doesn't allow for: - recognizing those who start the most thought provoking or diverse discussions (and hence are the lifeblood of the board) - recognizing particularly insightful or informational posts - peer recognition for quality of debate or contribution. So, basically, I wouldn't bother to try to tweak it. The actual number of posts is already sjhown against each member's name; it doesn't take much effort to glance at this, if it's a name you are unfamipippins apple with. Multiply all the post levels by 10, if you want to create some targets! |

There are vote based systems that allow for this, I don't know if such an add on is available for this particular board system (this is the only place I have come across the software). As a few other users have said, tweaking the rating system will only serve to encourage post w h o r i n g.

| I object to the 4th team being lower than the 1st team on loosehead's list. Surely the average 4th teamer will have been around much longer than any 1st team player, and this should be reflected in the ladder. |

May I sugest making the step sizes logarithmic, thereby making each step harder to achieve?
e.g. 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, etc
or 10, 30, 100, 300, 1000, etc

I'm with pen 15 on this, happy with the status quo. It doesn't bother me if I am rated as just a spectator or a super star. (but don't want to be an old fart!!)

What about play offs before promoting anybody. No relegation, smacks of ring fencing to me.Do posters have prime posting rights or is it a shared computer, do you get more points for having more than one toilet and wash basin in your house. DOES IT MATTER? IT IS ONLY A BIT OF FUN.
