I'd rather watch Nat1 rugby than Champ

For someone using the pseudonym of 'stadium' to advertise the benefits of Ampthill reaching the championship without even mentioning rugny, and when they don't even suitable facilities for spectators, or adequate facilities for injured players has to be the crudwest form of trolling seen in a long time.

I think there's a bit of tongue in cheek there.

Given 'stadium' 's location I suspect there might be.

It must be something they put in the water at Butt's Park...

Coventry have a fine stadium and, of those I've met, a fine bunch of supporters.

Ampthill on the other hand can only boast of a good playing surface, 6 adult teams, Colts, a full compliment of mini & youth and 2 ladies/girls teams.

Good luck to all for the rest of the season

It seats 2,800 (approx) under cover. It doesn’t matter what it is called.

One park bench and half a dozen plastic chairs is not suitable accommodation for a Championship ground.

I have been there  ( Ampthill )  several times and always enjoyed the experience. I agree it needs investment but this is all relative . The Rugby is good and the clubhouse is a fine traditional club. I am sure they could fit temporary stands with seating and cover .

Old Nick why are you so Grumpy? Ampthill are a club that are a good example to the future of developing youth in rugby. Please do not knock success that is one of the reasons why i support the Stadum4Cornwall  development and the Pirates.

This has all the hallmarks of a Premiership ground requirements thread from a few years ago!!

If Amps win, good luck to them, they're making lo g term arrangements but it will take a while to bed in - just like a Championship club going to the Premiership!

Has anyone from the Championship  made any statement regarding requirements for a promoted team yet.  If so can someone post a link would love to study it.

The Championship regulations contain the clause:
"All Clubs must have a valid health and safety certificate in respect of their ground at the time Matches are played at their grounds."

and there is a requirement for public liability insurance - the NCA provide PLI for the National league clubs.

I am grumpy because I saw a player with a neck injury lying on the ground on a body board for 45 minutes on a cold day because they couldn't provide a safe place for him to be sheltered, and because they couldn't provide a safe way for an ambulance crew or a paramedic to get to him or recover him. The game finished in the dark because of this.

I am grumpy because as we returned to the club house one of the local supporters mocked an elderly and not very mobile member of the Cpventry staff who was grumbling about the incident, saying "Well. at least it was a good game - nobody died, and the score's more important than the facilities" before we even knew that the player had reached hospital.

I am grumpy because if they make it to the Championship and are allowed to play there, dual standards are being applied compared with other teams. Will your Stadium for Cornwall allow an ambulave to pitchside? - of course it will.

None of this has anything to do with their teams, the way they play, or are recruited. None of it has anything to do with how they develop their youth players. It has nothing to do with the friendly people in their traditional clubhouse, nor the distance between the clubhouse and the pitches. It is not knocking success.

It is all to do with the health and safety aspect of theie facilities, which I do not consider to be fit for purpose, either for players or supporters.  They cannot continue to claim that they are only a little club with a few supporters, so need no facilities, while also boasting about the times when they have several thousand there.

I have seen when it failed. We and they were lucky that we only saw what was embarassing, not was fatal.

Great post OldNick that sounds shocking and wholly unacceptable.

I cannot believe rugby is allowed at any serious level (this should cover level 1 to level 4 at least), on a pitch without easy ambulance access.

As someone once said 'an accident waiting to happen' - OldNicks post highlights all that is wrong with attitudes of certain clubs - thankfully the incident did not have a more serious outcome.

The logical and local, but expensive, short-term solutions would be to play their Championship matches at MK Dons LOL which is 17.5 miles away but has 30,500 embarrassingly empty seats (shades of DMP) or at Biggleswade RFC (13.5 miles) which is an old fashioned classic East Midlands rugby club Thumbs Up but with plenty of room and level access......

......... or to drain the bottom pitch by the clubhouse Shocked Shocked !!

I have even seen the suggestion of a ground share with Bedford, similar to the arrangement at the RAG.
Any of these would be appropriate to my mind.

Given that the RFU want two tiers of professional rugby, I don’t understand how one is the subject of fairly draconian ground requirements and the other has virtually none. It’s almost as if nobody cares............

I don't think they do any more do they?

I think they want a professional league, and a training competition for the Professional League's Academy players.

I just looked on Google Earth and there is a route to the main road . This could easily be made a solid pathway to the main pitch. They obviously have heavy vehicles/ plant maintaining the pitches.

Also found this ......

For remote locations, "off road" locations or sets with poor road access, we can provide fully equipped Medical Support Units and Ambulances with "off road" capabilities.

Our drivers are experienced in driving "off road", and vehicles are equipped to ensure that expert medical services are on hand for your crew wherever you are filming. Based at Sheperton.

Why do they not use the pitch next to the clubhouse with a direct link to the main road ?.
