Llewelyn Jones of Nottingham Rugby appeared before an independent disciplinary panel and was given a six-week suspension for biting. Jones was charged with allegedly biting Alex Rae of Bedford Blues, contrary to law 9.12. The incident occurred in the second half of the Nottingham Rugby v Bedford Blues match on Sunday 2 September 2018.He was charged by the RFU under Rule 5.12 after the matter was referred to the RFU by the independent citing commissioner, Nick Wood, as more time was required to collate the evidence than the 48 hour citing window provided. The player pleaded guilty to the charge and was given a six-week suspension by the panel comprising Dan White (chair) with Matthew Weaver and Mitchell Read. Jones is suspended from 4 September (taking in to account the game on the 8 September v London Irish which he was stood down for) to the 15 October and is free to play again 16 October. “The panel determined that this was an appropriate case for a low end entry point having considered all the relevant features of the case and having heard evidence from the player in person," said panel chair Dan White. "We reduced the 12 week entry point by 50% in light of the mitigation available to the player which included an early guilty plea, previous good disciplinary record and his remorse. In the circumstances, he is now suspended from playing for six weeks and free to play again from the 16 October.”

The disciplinary panel is totally erractic I have seen some tackles cited this year that required no sanction during the game only for George Smith to be declared innocent of nearly taking off Jackson Wrays head off  . .  no arms with leading shoulder to the chin . . surely the worst type of dangerous tackle. It seems the RFU are tough on all of their own teams but step back when it comes to the Premiership . . what a surprise!!!!

Any judicial process varies with who's making the decision. I can assure you judges in courts vary tremendously. Bring in robots.

It looks like Llewelyn Jones is the second player this season so far to be suspended for foul play after the Richmond captain Cam Mitchell was suspended for 4 weeks after he was cited by the independent citing officer at the Richmond v LS. I do believe Mitchell’s foul play was for violent conduct off the ball.

The RFU regularly report on this for those interested:

You can often see the detailed judgement if you use the RFU search facility:
Dont kick it. Pick it up and GO FORWARD.

The panel determined that this was an appropriate case for a low end entry point - I hope the decision doesn't come back and BITE them in the bum LOL

RFU report refers to a high tackle in Mitchell’s case- nothing off the ball is mentioned.
Temm’s charge dismissed because it only merited a yellow card

What a load of ...

Honestly, why do people make this nonsense up? Anyway, what happened at the Irish/Bedford match where an Irish player got red carded and Bedford player went off for a HIA? We expecting further action to be taken? Surprised it hasn't been widely reported (Then again maybe not as we know the championship coverage is poor )

A red card does not require a citingg. There will be an automatic disciplinary panel midweek this week, ansd until then we will hear nothing because there is nothing to hear.

The citing process is to catch the red card lee offences whch were not picked up and carded at the time.
