As we're now into 2018, and as re-signings are being announced, I thought it perhaps time to start this one up.
OldNick added Cov's last re-signing onto the previous similar thread, but, like London buses, another one has now turned up, so...

Full back James Stokes extends his contract to 2020:

(Last week's announcement covered Nile Dacres' similar extension deal:

If you are with us next year I look forward to renewing old acquaintances.   This is a fun league. πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹

We never make an announcement when a player leaves Rich, it has always been the club they sign for so there won't be anything on the forum.

I see Old Elthamians have a new player on the bench tomorrow called Elliot Roofe. Said to be from London Scottish. Anyone know anything about him?

Nope, but a quick Google brings up a lot of references to him.

Elliot joined OEs in Oct: He was at Exeter Uni with several of the boys. He has played his way through the sides starting in the Bulls, via the Extras for 6 games to the 1st xv. He lives some 700 metres from the club, so no loan, no DR and a club member!

Thanks for the clarification. The OEs Director of Rugby has been fairly strong in stating DRs are not envisaged for the club and that in fact offers of such players from both Saracens and Harlequins had been turned down.

I've followed the debate on the other thread with keen interest as its directly affecting our league (London Prem) and find it interesting how anti OEs are about other teams getting loaned players/DRs in, yet are more than willing to loan out, Intouch regularly speaks of an 'agreement' with Westcombe Park which has sent former Rotherham Fly Half Will Robinson there as they fight for survival, is this not the same/very similar to the Saracens/OAs hook up?(Max Malins aside which I agree feels a bit much, even if he is desperate for any sort of game time).

Hi DD, I guess the particular other thread you refer to is the Fylde Loan thread. As you are aware this thread went to talk about loan/Drs at great length and the way that some other clubs in this league used them etc etc. What seemed to irk most posters was the fact that the number of changes that could be made from one week to another was creating an uneven playing field. A team could be playing against 6/7 one week yet next week different opponents may only be up against none, 1 or 2 depending on availability. The thread also touched on the wider issues of whether the 'Beneficiary' clubs on a long term basis could be ruined as a result, especially as next season the maximum of 4 is reintroduced. Posters actually showed concern for not only those clubs but also for the game as a whole.
My personal view on the whole issue is that Loans/Drs can and do work under certain circumstances - Long term Yes but not on a week on/ one or two weeks off basis with up to 10 possible changes. Did you get the same vibes ?

Hi Ranger,

I think its a really interesting discussion (apologies for bringing it onto the wrong thread!) and I'm not sure there is such a clean cut, right/wrong answer.

Personally, I feel like loans and DRs are a good thing. For example, last year we had a 18 year old prop come to us for the year from Blackheath, the whole situation worked really well all round, we got a fantastic young talent, and good bloke, who helped us out massively in our promotion campaign. He got an introduction to mens rugby, both on and off the pitch... and Blackheath exposed a prop to 1XV rugby, which in my opinion is more beneficial than 2s, especially when it comes to scrummaging. This year a similar thing has happened with Sam Evans, a Sidcup boy through and through who is now plying his trade at Blackheath, we had him for the first few games of the season, however unfortunately due to injuries he's been recalled, and as much as we miss him, we're happy that one of our own is playing at a higher level and testing himself.

I don't buy the level playing field argument one bit, largely due to teams differing budgets. Im not anti paying players, Sidcup have chosen to be fully amateur and long may that continue, however I also don't mind that teams pay, thats completely up to them and their long term ambitions. The same applies to DRs. If you want to use them, thats up to the individual club and their ethos, they come with the positives of being exceptional young players, but with the potential negatives of upsetting the delicate balance of team and club atmosphere as they come and go, especially if teams are fielding as many as 10 at a time. What makes a playing field more uneven? Getting a bunch of academy kids in for the odd game, or paying much more than everyone else for a team of premium, experienced players for a whole year?

Apologies for the long response, and for this being irrelevant to this actual thread, just felt there was an element of hypocrisy in the response to Elliot Roofe.

Best,
DD

Well said Dave I was going to mention Sam but held off. Credit must be given to coaches at both clubs as Sidcup were very open that Sam needed to play at a higher level and because of the connection came our way and when we had everyone back fit ours suggested he plays at Sidcup . Pity the prop went off to Uni this year as he had developed very well and given our current situation prop wise would likely have featured at the moment in the first team.

OEs have announced a new bench player for tomorrow's game. Flanker Elliott Quinton aged 19 has been signed from Chichester and has played a handful of A League games for London Irish this season.
