A very tense game at the Ferens Ground where Hull twice came back from behind to beat a very determined and committed Blaydon side by 16-14. The leagues leading try-scorer Steve Hihetah turned try-saver when he chased a break out by a Blaydon player and stopped him 15 metres from the line with a certain try on the cards. This was without doubt Hull's hardest game of the season.

According to the Sandal supporters around
me at the ilkley game the referee was poor that day! Sandal must just be unlucky with refs ! |

Must be a thing blame the referee it's not the players faults. I guess we all do that at times

I don't normally moan about ref's, and it definately wasn't me at Ilkley as I was stood on the far side of the pitch opposite the clubhouse shivering with only two or three others on that side. There was a few inebriated and vocal (not just with the carol singing) sandal "jolly boys / past players" who had their Christmas outing and had set in a convoy of mini buses very early and stopped at far too many public houses on the way to the game.
I'm sure every club has a few who constantly think the ref's rubbish (and invariably tell him and or others). That's not me and I tend to watch games on the quieter side of the pitch away from the clubhouse / stand. This league is the hardest to ref as its the highest standard before games have officials running touch. I honestly didn't think the ref had a good day on Saturday, if we had won I would still have thought the same. Edited by Willy Mclintosh - 06 Jan 2019 at 22:19 |

You're a brave man to have stood on the far side of Stacks Field for the Sandal game ! I've never known such atrocious conditions. I was writing the report that day and the entire second half was on just the one page.
The Sandal vets did drink us out of bitter that afternoon too ! There are one or two refs in this league that I feel have little or no empathy for the game - not playing advantage ; being over-pernickety at the line-out ; ignoring crooked feeds etc and I find them more irritating than those who miss forward passes, offsides and so on. On the other hand, we badly need more of them, so ( we ) old hands have to be patient as they build up their experience.

I still don't think the referee had a bad game. Maybe we just need to look at what we are doing wrong and except we have to listen to the ref and change how we are playing to suit his rules in that game
