FT at Hull and the home side strengthen their position at the top of the league with a convincing 49-7 win against 2nd placed Billingham

Billingham out gun today by a very good Hull side. Can't see many teams beating them this season if they play like that every week. Well done Hull see you in the new year

There is only one word needed to sum up Hull's performance today after 7 converted tries and that word   is sublime. No one at the Ferens Ground this afternoon could have seen that result coming.

Strange decision at ilkley v Harrogate yesterday
Ilkley scored in the second half to make it 17-17 and then had a penalty given
against them for over celebrating a try !

billinghamoldgit,

Well that was certainly the case yesterday but in last season's fixtures Billingham won 23-17 at the Ferens Ground and Hull won the return at Greenwood Road by 19-7.  Having said that, the tally between the two clubs shows that Hull have won six of the seven games played, so perhaps there is something in what you say.

And that penalty took Harrogate deep into the Ilkley 22, which they didn’t leave before they scored the match-winning try, Naturally, the Harrogate lads didn’t celebrate the score at all....

I think it is more the way Ilkley players 'celebrated' after every decision that went their way.
Getting in players faces, pushing and shoving and verbals can be seen as 'celebrating', but I think the ref had had enough in the end and no doubt would have warned them about it.

I think bigger problem you need the address is the line out falling apart (4/5 clean steals and at least 2 over throws) and a reversing scrum that your eight did really well to rescue as it was on roller-skates.

Harrogate started really well, Ilkley got back into the game, had opportunities and got the scores level. After the final penalty, Gate had a line out and drove for the line. The maul collapsed just on the line and Ilkley were given the scrum (easily could have gone penalty try and a yellow on another day), but it didn't. Ilkey's eight got pushed off the ball on their put in and then the try came very soon after.

I think Harrogate will be very pleased with the five points, especially in a derby and overall deserved the victory.

Oddly, OTG, I had the ‘gate players doing exactly what you say the Ilkley players were doing ! The penalty was a ludicrous decision in any event.

I totally agree that the Ilkley line was poor, but our pack did pretty well in the scrums, despite conceding a lot of avoirdupois. We did actually get two forward-based tries, illustrating a certain level of competence !

The five points were well-earned - no complaints there and if you’d like to read the Ilkley version of events, my report is on the webpage. See you next year !
