Presumably if Hull get promoted and Hull Ionians didn't that would mean some(more) rumours about merging?

Hull and Hull i's will not merge, it will just keep chaps busy chatting over the summer !!!

The two clubs have too many ego's to make it happen !

Would be some rugby force though ...... Hull I's ground and Beal homes money !!!!!!!

I see Otley have been docked 4 points for breach of junior players in senior rugby regs. That's a shame as they are in a great run and in with a genuine shout.
Well done to them for going to the YRFU when they discovered their error.

Full judgement is on the RFU Discipline web site.
(Otley have right of appeal until March 27)

Quick and honourable action by Otley.

Do you know if the YRFU followed up on his statement that he had been training with Keighley RFU senior side?

Also a warning to all clubs about how easy it is to fall foul of the regulations regarding Age Grade players playing and/or training with adult players especially in the teams below the first team.

It is a mid level offence, no injuries and not in the front row, so the starting point is points equivilant to two games possibly suspended.

It does take them out of the promotion race.

No punishment???? It's an absolute disgrace and Otley have been well and truly shafted.  The punishment is huge and just doesn't fit the crime in any way. The consequences for a club pushing for promotion could be massive for many, many people - lots of them volunteers for whommit could be devastating.  If the RFU have nothing better to do with their time than follow this kind  of thing to that extent then we're in a bit of trouble.  Which we arguably are.
Credit to Otley for owning up, but I'm 100% certain that many clubs have done (and still allow) exactly the same thing to happen. I'm well aware of 'safeguarding' and the need to protect young people, but there can be a world of difference between 16 year olds - some look 19 some look 14 - and I'm confident that a top club like Otley would not have let him play if he wasn't fully capable.
A shocker by the RFU in my opinion.

I bet those 4pts will have no impact at all on the end of season table

And if Otley are in desperate need to play a young lad no one even knew, and simply turned up of his own accord, in the second team then this might actually help the club

You may or may not be right about the impact of the 4 point deduction - it'll certainly have an impact on the morale of the squad. And as to this actually helping the club - I'm not sure what planet you're on. Any comment from Otley supporters?

Otley, without the deduction, would have been in 4th place and still have to have to play the 3 teams above them.  Their destiny was virtually in their own hands, for at least a play off place.

So has the deduction already been done and 81 the correct points for them?

It is possible the table may not be changed until Otley's period of appeal has expired - March 27.

An amazing end to the season in prospect, just about all the top teams have to play each other... plenty more twists and turns to come

Clearly the three to be relegated are as they are now: Peterborough, Macclesfield and South Leicester. Promotion mere difficult but for me Ionians with Chester to play off.
We will have Hull (not too bad) and perhaps Scunny (not so sure!). But Loughbro' . Good Lord. No!
