South's lack of leadership is one of the reasons why they are in such a mess!
I fully expect them to fold if they are relegated.
No 2nds, No 3rds, do they still run a Colts side?- no crowds - unfortunately no hope!

Your information seems to be well out of date about South Leicester, their 2nds lost to the Lions 2nds earlier this month. They have an u16's side, U15's side and their U14's are playing today, so perhaps their impending demise is not quite here yet. Leicestershire rugby seems to be still very strong, their junior sides have always struggled for fans on the touchline with Leicester Tigers just down the road. Was the same when I played for Wigston back in the 1970's.

south might be on the verge of relegation  but they can hold their heads up high after yesterdays performance   they fought all the way to the end   and  was only in the last 10 mins or so did wharfedale pull away from them   as for top spot huddersfield  are slight favourites but they too have tough games ahead  hull ionians
               chester
               stourbridge
               tyndale
               wharfedale twice
              sedgley park
              fylde
so  a lot  still to play for

Again Bernie are you sure?
You only have to check on the lsrur fixtures to see how many involving South 2’s are regularly cancelled and certainly last season the same team fulfilled both 2 and 3’s fixtures.
I am not doubting the junior teams at all and there are some great people involved at South, but something goes wrong between junior and senior rugby and let’s face it the 1st team are now mainly mercenaries with a few guys who have been there awhile.
Very similar to your own club as your 2’s are not exactly competitive and you don’t command decent crowds either.
Compare that to Hinckley just down the road who average about 500 in N2N and run a full set of senior and junior teams which flies in the face of your Tigers analogy as they have to put up with a nearer pull from Wasps as well.
I would suggest that the talent in Leics is spread too thin as there are too many clubs although generally the state of the game is certainly better than it used to be.
I too used to play in front of one man and his dog for Syston in the 70’s and early 80’s when Westleigh, South and Stoneygate would’t lower themselves to play us at 1st XV level - leagues blew that inequality away - where are ‘Gate now!
I also still live locally and prefer to watch grassroots rugby rather than the professional game - just my local up to date observations.

Hinckley was always a distant satellite, most folk I knew from there didn't consider themselves as from Leicester at all(though where they did was a mystery). All I remember from there was the Hinckley Knight pub on the A5 and playing at their old ground scoring in 2 tries in a comfortable win lol(not too shabby as I was playing in the 2nd row that day)

My memories are slightly different as some Donkey ‘Leigh forward broke my leg on New Year’s Day 1975 in a game that Leigh did deem worthy. I was playing on the wing and paid for my sins getting to close to a ruck (remember them) getting a good shoeing and a trip to the LRI.
Didn’t, however, have a long wait for the ambulance in those days!

Couldn't agree more. South were right in it with 20 mins left. I felt sorry for them as they really deserved a couple of points at least.

I was thinking that I'd not be sorry to see them go as I find it a pretty depressing club to visit, bur I'd rather go there half a dozen times than a single trip to Loughborough Students, who look like coming down. Luffbra is the most awful place to go as a visiting supporter.

On a side note, a bugbear of mine is our Yorkshire Carnegie Rfu Academy, lending players to clubs outside of Yorkshire.
They moan that ghee aren't enough Nat 1 clubs in Yorkshire for player development. Well guess what lads, farming great young talent out to Non Yorkshire clubs isn't going to fix the situation.

My tip for the top 3 .....
1st Huddersfield ... recruited well (which is not hard when you have recruited the whole of Yorkshire !!!) Strong unit from 1 - 20 and the new 10 is class behind the big pack.

2nd Hull I's ... good team, good set up, just feel they will trip up to a few away but may be wrong.

3rd Chester ... Chester are pushing this year and a great club but will just be short ... but only just !!!

My tip for the bottom 3 ... Stourbrid ..... no wait ......

14th Macclesfield ... they will bounce straight back and are rebuilding with a good young team, right choice the way Marshall is doing it.

15th South Leicester ... have you seen their run in !!! Wharfedale (A) Hull (A) Chester (A) Fylde (H) Huddersfield (A) Sedgley (H) Otley (A) ........By Fylde it may be all over !!!! Shame as we like Wayne

16th Peterborough lions. Tough season but they will have learnt and will be back !

Going to be close at both ends which is great to see and whoever goes will be a loss and a shame but it has to be someone.

Let me know your thoughts, there will be some interesting weeks ahead !!

TD2

After the weekend fixtures, it is only fair to say that you have got this absolutely spot on. Great post, well informed and totally correct in every way.

....Thanks

Now having watched Huddersfield I am at a loss to predict who's going up.
A big set of forwards but quite one dimensional and slightly pedestrian.
If they go up the tempo of Nat 1 would kill them. They need to be much fitter.
Huge game at Lockwood Park next weekend when they take om Ionians.
In the end it may come down to the side that actually wants promotion.

Having watched our 14 men (after 20 minutes) match your 15 men until the last few minutes of the game I thought we did quite well.
Happy to be in our current position and we'll continue to play our own game and see where our journey gets us at the end of the season.

Huddersfield will be fine, they may have needed a loss to keep them grounded for this week ..... which it does not get much bigger !!

2 interesting games this week for me at the top and bottom.

Huddersfield vrs Hull .... Home gets it
Macclesfield Vrs Tigers ...... Hmmmmmm

What do we think gents ? I will give nice betting odds on getting the double right Big smile

If Chester can win, they will close the gap to make it really interesting or jump into 2nd !! We could be sat on Saturday night with 3 teams on 84 with 6 games to go ! Stourbridge could beat Fylde to kill there dreams ...... bloody great league this year.

Fair assessment brb. On yesterdays showing both sides well short of N1 quality. I's know it. Huddersfield looked to have 3/4 players with the necessary pace and ability so they will need a lot more " players who've approached us and who want to be part of our journey. If they don't buy in to the Head Coach's vision and philosophy then they aren't for us" if they want a serious crack at the league above.
it was an enjoyable game at Lockwood Park, I's won it because they were more clinical in possession, taking the chances when they came. Huddersfield had 2/3 of the ball but laboured to break down the I's defence and only came to life in the last 10 minutes, when the game was beyond them.
It's only a game

BP Youth,

Fair assessment of yesterday. We were short of a few of our regulars, and perhaps this showed again that you need a big squad of quality N2N players to even be successful at this level, let alone N1. I thought we were below par and not up to the level that we've achieved in quite a number of our games this season, but your guys were resolute in defence (which is normally one of our qualities), and clinical in attack.

We always knew we had a tough run-in and this has been proven in the last couple of games. Still, we've got an easy trip to Stourbridge next week Smile

So in Nat2N, at the moment, Peterborough are down with Macc and South really up against the wall, BUT lots of talk that Yorkshire Carnegie may well fold at the end of the season and thus only 2 would come down from Nat1 and so only 5 would go down from Nat 2, the bottom 2 from N & S  and the 3rd bottom club with the poorest record.
If YC fail then it gives everyone a lot to play for, and this scenario may well not become live until after the end of the season.

What's story with YC, tell us more, folding like London Welsh out of business and starting again as amateur?

The Rugby paper eluded to a cut in budget yesterday but anything else seems a bit unlikely - unless someone knows better.
Presumably if Hull get promoted and Hull Ionians didn't that would mean some(more) rumours about merging?
