I'm looking forwards to the long drive to Cambridge tomorrow. First The Lancashire Royals v Eastern Counties Wanders and then Lancashire v Eastern Counties.

Full day of rugby, dawn till dusk.

Just back from watching a cracker of a game at Esher between Surrey and Somerset. Twelve tries scored. Surrey looked to be far more drilled and familiar with each other and had clearly the more potent pacy attack as they ran out 46-24 winners.

Rather strange to be told before the game that match programmes were only available for VIPs and County Committee members, so us "mere supporters" couldn't have one! Nothing like elitism, eh?

SBen - surely you can’t be surprised as the blazers have to protect their private club status.
No doubt they had a reserved bar or part of the clubhouse cordoned off as well!
Imagine having to find out your counties team from an evening newspaper in one of the opposition counties major city’s. My cb run a Twitter account and have their own website - both sadly never up to date and no mention of team or venue for this years competition.
Perhaps Stato can enlighten us on how it went yesterday?

Apparently Leics beat Warks by a cricket score.
14 National League players on one side, and two on the other.
I only know of Wheato, but I guess there were other Hinckley players.
Pointless exercise really.

I now stand corrected as Leics Facebook page is pretty comprehensive with both match report and u tube coverage.
As I choose not to use social media as I am a founder member of the flat earth society, pretty useless!
At least I now know the group showdown versus East Mids is next week and should be a close encounter dependent on how many of the Ampthill mob are drafted in!

Correct 14 National League players in the starting line up, squad was 11 Hinckley, then 4 South, 2 Leicester Lions, 2 Rugby Lions, 1 Lutterworth, 1 Oadby Wyggs, 1 Birmingham (for those interested :-) )

Tough afternoon, Warwickshire gave it their absolute all, I think we were very pleased with our performance and probably outperformed where we thought we would be at this point, it certainly was not a result we were expecting. Excited for this weekend against East Midlands now.

Having looked a bit further, there was only one Warks player from the National leagues. One from Mids Prem. Several from Rugby Lions, Nuns, Barkers, Southam, etc. Huge gulf in playing levels.

Yes Bottomofthehill, Esher RFC had actually posted a piece of paper on a door next to the bar with "VIPs Only" written on it - the door was see through, so the mere "supporters" could see them helping themselves to the table groaning with food and drink...
"Power to the People" required in the Bill Beaumont Cup?

I'm off to watch Middlesex v Dorset & Wiltshire on Saturday - hopefully the us v them mentality of the Surrey RFU won't be in evidence at Grasshoppers RFC too!!
