Very strong team for Hampshire again this year moving up to Div 1. A few injuries after a long season for many but expect them to do well this weekend.

You'd suspect so looking at the team being a little Caldy heavy. I know Chester have a playoff and Macc have not been as strong this season but it hardly helps to spread the appeal of the county championships when over half the team are from just one club

I am sure you have answered your own question , but if we look at it logically Sale FC are the top team in Cheshire and are supplying a number of players to Lancashire plus many of their side are Sale Sharks players who are not available, Chester would have supplied players but are in the play off, the next highest team are Wirral at level 5 who are supplying a number of players, you could add in Sandbach who are level 5 midlands other sides are Wilmslow  who got relegated to level 6 . There is 1 player from Birkenhead Park at level 6 but we are going a long way down when most of the opposition in Cheshire's league are selecting from Level 3 look at Yorkshire, Lancashire apart from Sale players are selecting from level 4.

Personally it would have been nice to see a few more of the Cheshire Harvesters promoted into the main squad rather than just bringing in extra Caldy players.

I understand Yorkshire and Lancashire have more options to choose from but I would have liked to see a bit more variation Nothing against Caldy by the way as most other counties seem to do the same...EC have 8 Cambridge players. Lancashire a few years back would do the same with Fylde

---

Division One newcomers Hampshire pushed last season’s runners up, Hertfordshire, all the way in their group opener, before eventually going down 29-20.

Tries from Wayne Dugan, Curtis Barnes and Charlie Stonehill kept the hosts in the contest right to the end, but Hertfordshire’s experience and forward power ensured they opened their campaign with a win ahead of a trip to Cornwall next weekend.

Dugan’s smart finish early on, latching on to Robbie Searle’s delicate kick in behind, settled Hampshire after they’d soaked up plenty from the visiting forwards in the close quarter exchanges.

The lead was short-lived – Bishop’s Stortford full-back Nick Hankin scampering over from close range – but the sides went into the break inseparable at ten points apiece. Sam Lunnon’s first of the afternoon was matched by three points from the boot of home captain Joel Knight, who took full advantage with the wind at his back.

An action-packed second period saw the visitors come out flying, with Hankin’s club colleague Ben Harrison-Price being driven over from five metres out, only for Barnes to strike. The Worthing Raiders winger profited from Knight’s defence-splitting break, keeping Hampshire in touch at 17-15.

But, led on by the peerless Nick Radley, whose insatiable appetite for carrying repeatedly consumed the attention of numerous Hampshire defenders, Hertfordshire went onto to pick up the bonus point.

Josh Ruddling picked off Jacob Knight’s pass to dot down under the posts, before Lunnon added his second. Cardiff Metropolitan youngster Stonehill added a late effort – which might have led to a losing bonus point had the conversion gone over – to round off an entertaining afternoon in Gosport.

How did Cheshire get on yesterday? Can't see the score on Cheshire's website.

Now that the playoff is out of the way there should be a few of our lads available for the next two games.

Anyone from here going to the game at Birkenhead?
