Interesting article, however it appeared not to suggest the council members to pay for their wives travel, meal and tickets - I wonder why?

If this is put to a vote of the council it will never get passed as it is a case of Turkeys voting for Christmas - it would have to be imposed!

If one wants Council Members to play by the rules of probity, then the Clubs they represent have to start getting their acts together and ensuring that their elected/appointed representatives are prepared to support those who commit to keeping their snouts out of the trough Confused

What do our Council Members actually do for our club is the question which needs asking Angry

This may go contrary to many people's opinions here and may not go down well, but in my experience virtually all the RFU Council members have given unimaginable amounts of their own time as volunteers running and supporting the game for many years before reaching their current positions. I know quite a few personally and can say unequivocally that this is the case. The same goes for the thousands of volunteers who run County Unions, and although they get lots of criticism from their clubs, not many people put their hands up at the AGM to get elected to a job with no pay!
I can also vouch from experience at various levels how hard it is to get volunteers to do anything in rugby these days, and the Council Members are almost all among those who have served their time.
I'm simply saying that there is another way to look at this issue.

..forgot to say that I also do agree wholeheartedly with Andrew's proposal in the link, even though the Council aren't all bad people!
