None of these county teams are picked on merit but rather who is available. After a tough season of full on league rugby how many players want another 4 or 5 weeks of meaningless stuff. Why would players getting paid by their clubs want to turn out for the "County" for doodle-eye-squat?? The result being that counties are picking lads plying their trade in Levels 6, 7, 8 & 9 and usually with as many clubs from the CB represented as possible
It's a farce and cannot be taken seriously as a meaningful competition
To think County rugby used to be the stepping stone to international selection and actually meant something and was a competition treated with the utmost respect by players and supporters alike. I think Twickenham was also a green painted timber shack in those days!😂😂😂

My memory may be playng tricks, but I thought the green stands were best quality corrugated iron.
Mind you I was a nipper when I first saw Quins play there. Not quite sure why they were playing in the big ground and not across the road - I think it was being redeveloped.

Not playing tricks CQ, it was corrugated iron painted green! Remember many an Army v navy game in my youth and banging against the corrugated iron to make more noise!!
Rucks and mauls may bust my balls, but whips and chains excite me!!

Point taken Camp Freddie & Penda but there can't be much pride about in Lancashire if you're picking Rawlings at 12 who has just taken Longton down to Level 7. As someone commented earlier "Are Lancashire short of Inside backs?" As a proud Lancastrian myself I know for definite there's plenty in the County but none proud enough obviously??
Cheshire have done extremely well to reach the final but let's not kid ourselves its a quality competition
Oh and I stand corrected on the other matter - corrugated iron it was!

But Nathan Morris did play for Wasps in the Premiership and LW . . and has won the far more prestigious U20 World cup!

By the looks of it you potentially won’t have to worry about it if England Counties is scrapped !!!

The whole thing is a waste of money and the £££ could be put to better use supporting local rugby clubs.

Ask the CBs where the money goes, they are the ones who currently get the funds and spend it on 3 pointless games.

L33 do you get out much? The CBs use to get roughly £3K per County Championship XV, i.e. £9K if you entered a U20s, Senior Mens, Senior Womens. Next season that's been cut to £6K. So using your Logic if RFU decided to equally share out that £6K to all the Clubs in Lancashire that works out at £92 each, yep waste of money. Pointless games? There was nearly 1000 watching the Roses Game at Fylde 2 weeks ago, pretty sure the lads on the pitch would disagree that it was a pointless game.

Cheshire,Lancashire,Yorkshire and Kent to name a few all played level 3 or 4 players with the odd level 5.
So the players enjoy it and it is a chance for them to put their name in the hat to join a Championship side.

And get the chance to play at Twickenham. Outside the Premiership, it's the only chance they have of making it to Twickenham if they play in the national leagues. The closest otherwise would be step down to Level 7 and play in the Intermediate Cup.

We also get the benefits of players and ex-players coaching age grade sides and mentoring young players in the academy who have been let go by Premiership sides.

I think you will find that some of the County Champ Finals are not being allowed to play at Twickenham this season

RFU lists them as being at the patch - both on the fixtures and the Twickenham what's on pages.

The division 1 finals, men and women, are alongside the Barbarians matches.
The division 2 (m/w) and 3 (m) finals are stand alone on June 8th so I am not sure what size crowd they will draw.

The ridiculous thing about this is that some Division Two County Players have been selected for the England Counties squad and so will not be able to play for their counties at Twickenham on the day of the Div 2 Final on 8th June. You couldn't make this up, could you?!

It must very difficult for the RU to have to combine the traditional county finals with having to accommodate more fixtures created by our modern game! I hope the boys who are missing out get another chance!
