This is semi pro rugby so players need to negotiate time away from work - even if RFU pays for their time.
We do not know how many players have declined for financial reasons, or simply to give bodies time to recover.
I know several of the Cambridge players did not play for Eastern Counties this year as they needed rest and recovery after a hard season.

I am sure you will be correct in a few cases Camquin, but I suspect these will be the exceptions rather than the general rule. To any that did turn down the chance all I would say is your a long time retired.
Perhaps its the era of my upbringing, but aches and pains and a few days leave would have been sacrificed to represent my country at any sport.

Have to agree with you there Wigwam Can't see anybody turning down
a chance to put on his country's International shirt.

So pick a heavily weighted Nat 1 squad, which implies a hard game is expected, then start with the few Nat 2 players that were in the squad ???
I must admit I have lost the plot with this.
The selectors must be Cannon and Ball ??? Old past it and not very funny anymore ???

I would think it makes pretty good sense TBF.
The game against Euskarians (a Basque country side I believe) will be seen as a warm-up for the main event against Spain a few days later. It seems logical that more of the level 3 players will be starting that one.

Well done for not letting that get in the way of being free with your criticism! What have England Counties done to upset you? You seem determined to criticise them at every juncture.

Close, it's people who make assertions, but aren't prepared to back them up with any basis in knowledge, logic or reason. Remind me again what the selectors have done wrong.

Funnily enough, I only find the need to question posts that I can't follow / don't agree with!

To use one of your favourite sayings........If you read the thread......
But to indulge you I will remind you. My gripe boils down to the lack of southern representation from both Nat 1 & Nat 2.

A few teething problems with the Feed but apart from the Basque commentary enjoyable game so far Counties lead 26-12

Red for Ed Milne though - tip tackle

Red all day long and twice on Sundays.
I believe there was a yellow against the hosts for retaliation in the same incident
Not sure who was ref but Kudos to them for not bottling the decision.

Not sure who deals with the disciplinary panel for a red on tour.
But he could be missing the start of the season.

I have a friend whose son plays for one of the Valladollid clubs.

He says the rugby standard in Spain is very much improving, though it's the standar of the referees that also needs to match it.

Frankly, a poor report of proceedings for the midweek match (or 50% of the tour...):

Somehow, they have to include some kind of respectable media component to justify the strapline:

"England Counties is the flagship team of the community game in England and offers players from National League One and below the opportunity to represent their country."

Not only an inadequate reflection on the efforts of the squad, but a missed opportunity for some up and coming/intern "press" person.

Must do better, RFU.
Come cheer up, my lads - 'tis to glory we steer!
