"England Counties is the flagship team of the community game in England and offers players from National League One and below the opportunity to represent their country. "

Lets keep it that way

Entertaining game on a cold night with a breeze going down the slope. Fast paced throughout, plenty of commitment, tackling good. 14- 14 at half time.
I would estimate gate at around 500.

Would have loved to be there, would genuinely have booked a day off so I could go - great result for the side. Well done England.

What was interesting was on that cold, wet night in Gala there wasn't a single RFU official to be seen - just the players, coaching staff, family and friends of the players and me.

I live tweeted that game from my own twitter account, and asked to do the same for the home game that was played at Blackheath - but was turned down. It's worth noting I took on the expense to go to Belgium and Scotland out of my own pocket and whereas the RFU don't owe me anything, my aim here is to give exposure to the team to the people that are interested - you folks. Two tweets a game on the official RFU twitter feed just won't cut it.

Anyway, I am heading to Birmingham tomorrow night after work to cover it, and have made some progress. Simon Legge, the assistant team manager, has kindly allowed me to cover the game from the Counties twitter feed, so there will be comprehensive coverage on there for all those interested. I got in touch with the Rugby Paper to offer a report, but they have declined.

My plan this summer is to provide a service to the County Championship, up and down the land, and hopefully follow the tour this summer, to wherever that is.

If anyone wants to talk to me about their county set-up, or has any interesting stories, please do give me a shout.

Please follow @EnglandCounties from 6.30pm tomorrow for full coverage.

Good on you WoW! Those of us who believe in the importance of the England Counties idea are very grateful for your coverage. The RFU has a very patchy attitude to the Counties but their lack of media input (since Paul Bolton hasn't been involved) is very poor. OK, these Feb/Mar games clash with the 6 Nations and that is the RFU's principal focus but nevertheless the Counties deserve more. Why don't the RFU give you a few quid to assist your travelling costs and time?

LIGHTER TASTE NOTES

Well RedorDead it would be foolish of me to reveal the exact recipe for our darn goreous Cornish Pasties or the location of their manufacture (we have permission to use the term Cornish) but I  can reveal that there is a rumour that the root vegetables are sourced from latitude 52deg 30' 4.2732"N
longitude 1deg 57' 5.2394" W but that is only a rumour which is quite surprising but allotments abound in nearby locations

Permission - who from?
A pasty can only be called Cornish if it is made in Cornwall.

So Yorkshire Puddings can only be made in Yorkshire or Everton Mints in Liverpool....... actually who cares where a Cornish pasty is made as long as it's nice!!

As far as I'm aware, neither of those things hold PGI status, so you're comparing apples and oranges.

Redted, I was wondering the same thing.

From the powers that be, maybe, but how are us supporters meant to get interested if we have little or no way of finding out what's happening? I was interested enough to follow the previous game via Twitter - a bit of a frustrating way to follow a game, but better than nothing.
