so where is the england counties selected from? is there selectors at the county games though the county championship or is it a bit of an old boys club, picked from certain counties and clubs?

I believe that the spring fixtures are from National 1/2 - not necessarily with county experience and the summer touring party from the same but with county experience a strict criteria. Usually not more than 2 or 3 from each club - I believe if you have 3 in the side you can ask for your league fixture to be postponed

Wow - did all the Yorkshire / Lancashire players miss the call, not to forget Cheshire, I assume Ted Stagg will play for Cheshire Senior XV I don't think he has yet.

Interesting that they've gone for Counties qualified players for the early squad
and such a small number of clubs

Edit: So last four can apply for deferred fixture

Birmingham Moseley play Blaydon the next day so 4 from the former and two from the latter won't be playing in that fixture.

Im surprised to see Kieran Hallett selected. I thought the England Counties was for promising young English players not players in their 30'S who have earned representative honours for other countries.
it does seem very strange not having any players from Lancashire, Yorkshire or Cornwall.

I read somewhere there was originally a 40 man squad. So perhaps injuries and unavailability kicked in. Still a round of fixtures Saturday that could impact if there are unfortunate injuries.

Selection-

All players are nominated by DOR's- all National League games are now on line (Elite Hub) so all players are watched by 5/6 selectors- usually starter from September with final calls made in Jan.

You must all remember the players in National League are all part time so therefore if work won't allow time off or family commitments then they can't be selected. Also no DR's are allowed and must be English funnily enough so wipes out other players, then injuries happen.....Not everyone will be happy with selection but the guys selected are. Every players who's played for Counties loves the experience.

Mr Hallet nominated himself and as best 10 in Nat One was a simple choice, he's been outstanding for plymouth this season on and off the field.

11 new caps doesn't cry old boys network in my opinion. Always nice to keep some form of continuity in a side that has 3 sessions to become a team.

Haters will always hate but speak to the players who get selected first

It's a great product and brilliant opportunity for the players - I know all the Cambridge players have enjoyed their time in the past. And yes, you do need some continuity and experience - the squad rotates quite dramatically annually to spread out the experience, so there's no indication of an old boys network that I have seen - that appears at County level Wink Beer

Is that James Stokes who was at Cambridge last year? Looks an impressive player, will the championship premiership come knocking for that lad?

Seen him play a couple of times this year, he would be a asset to any club, on and off the field.

Puts bums on seats an isn't shy around the female sponsors.

With the announcement of his partner's pregnancy, its not turning out to be a bad week for Mr Stokes.
