I am (still) trying to list all England (full, male) caps on display in clubs, museums etc.
I want to record the heritage of the game. On your travels please keep an eye out and let me know if you spot any caps. I've set up a Twitter account in case you want to send a photo etc. @capsrugby Thank you. |

Hi Richard,
Not sure if I informed you previously, but the RFU Museum currently hold one of ours. |

What if the Hokey Kokey really IS what it's all about?

Next season will be our Sesquicentennial and we are having a display of memorabilia at the Harris Museum Preston from July 2019, part of which we hope to include one of Wade Dooley's caps.

If you and your friend are being chased by a grizzly bear, don’t worry about out-running the bear, just worry about out-running your friend.

Cheers Willy, there are at least two I have interest in. Kendal is on, should have Sam Martindale's cap.

Pocklington have the cap of Alf Kewney, who made 16 England appearances 1906-13 and was nicknamed 'Kicking Ginger' because of his fiery temperament. He was named at prop in Rugby World magazine's 'Team of the Millennium' in 2000. Kewney won his first cap at Rockcliiff RFC in the north-east then 'transferred' to Leicester Tigers in 1908. Tigers were accused of giving financial inducements to Kewney and two other international signings but an RFU hearing, which was held on the same day of the England v Ireland game at Welford Road in 1909, exonerated Tigers and the players. The RFU President promptly resigned in protest at the verdict. Kewney worked in the shipping industry and moved from Tyneside to East Yorkshire, becoming an early coaching advisor at Pocklington in the 1930s. |

Excellent and thank you very much for this. It's a classic example that the caps are not necessarily in the clubs to which you connect the player as a player. I'll add it to my list of clubs to visit - or revisit as I still remember how Billy Hardy nearly kicked Wakefield out of the Yorkshire Cup in the early 80s! |

Richard, I believe Buff Berry's Cap is on display in the Tyldesley Clubhouse, along with his Lancs Cap from pre-schism and Lancs Northern Union Cap. I seem remember someone mentioning he is one of the players depicted in Wollen's "The Match" from the Roses game of 1893.

Not cap related, but had to respond to your memory about the late Billy Hardy and his Yorkshire Cup kicking exploits in the 80s - that game against Wakefield, who were the top side in the north at the time, included what I think might be a unique rugby feat. One of Hardy's monster kicks from halfway hit the woodwork five times then came out! Incredibly it crashed into the right hand post, dropped down and bounced twice along the crossbar, bounced into the left hand post, then back onto the bar again and out. Never heard so many oohs, aahs and groans at a rugby ground. I think Wakefield won the first round game 18-12 and went on to win the Cup that year. |

I understand there is a cap on display at Moseley from some years back so will track it down and provide details for you in the New Year. |
