FT and a convincing win by the English Counties team over Romania A , by 40 points to 5. sad to see a country who were once quite strong at international level struggle at this level , but that is taking nothing away from an excellent Counties performance đź‘Ť

When Rugby was amateur, Romania was under the Ceaușescu regime.
As I understand it there were plenty of army and police positions for rugby players as the regime saw success supported national prestige. These days it has returned to a real amateur game, and a lot of the best players headed for France - Romanian is a romance language, possibly the closest to Latin. |

One of Hull RUFC players ,Steve Hihetah, who plays in NPL is at this moment playing for Romania 7's in a tournament in Croatia, he holds dual nationality ,his mother being Romanian. He has previously played for Romania A.
I refereed a number games there in the Ceausescu era ,the standard of rugby then was of a good standard, but as Camquin mentioned there were positions available for good players in the forces and in the police. The national team managed some notable victories over some of the present 6 nations countries. |

He had a short spell at Doncaster Knights but couldn't really cut the mustard at the time - looking at recent video footage he has bulked up a touch which he definitely needed to do when with us. Good to see he has been doing a number for Hull RUFC though.

Worth mentioning that all 3 Aspirational Pathway National sides have completed this season undefeated U18s Counties - 2 wins over Ireland, U20s Counties 2 wins over Georgia and the Senior Counties with 3 out of 3 in Romania.

CQ - suggestions as to who? 20s v Georgia U20s, the same Georgia U20 Squad that beat Ireland a few days ago in the U20 RWC Cup and lost by one score to SA U20s and by 12 points to France U20s - quite an achievement Think the Seniors in Romania is a decent shout also given their past reputation, admittedly not as strong as their were but still ranked 17th in the World so to take on their A Team and win given that Counties went with a squad from Level 3 to Level 5 players in it, is also IMHO an achievement |

The end of season EC tour is always to a developing country/area. The players/ coaches also hold sessions in the local communities that they visit and I personally think it is great going there.
Beting a national teams A side is no mean feat.

I would love to see a full counties/amateur level 6 nations along with its U20 equivalent. Though I know it would not do any favours to fixture congestion.
