So who are the runners and riders this season?
Any squad announcements?
Will anyone stop Lancashire?

Cheshire did last year

As did Cornwall in the two seasons before that. Given Fylde's gradual slide down National 1, I don't see any reason to think that Lancashire are the only team to worry about. Given the good season that Caldy have enjoyed and the fact that they are at home in the head to head, I'd have thought that you'd have to back Cheshire to make it back to HQ.

At the moment, nobody seems sure how many, if any Albion players will be turning out for Cornwall this time around. Last time, seven of the starting XV that played in the final were Albion players, so losing them would significantly weaken the team. On top of that, last season's star back Billy Searle will not be available as he's now plying his trade in the AP and star forward Sam Matavesi hasn't been playing league rugby having joined the navy so may be missing as well. Also, I don't think that talismanic forward Ben Hilton is back from the nasty injury he sustained playing for Barnstaple. All in all, as a betting man, I'd be laying Cornwall this time around.

Given the good seasons that OAs have had in their return to N1 and BS in N2S, my tip from the south would be Hertfordshire and based on Cheshire's showing in last season's final, I'd tip them to take the trophy home. Gloucestershire have been perennial underachievers in the competition of late, given Hartpury's success if the best players eligible make themselves available and are selected, they could certainly throw a spanner in the works. The same goes for Surrey, Kent and Devon to a slightly lesser extent.

What's your thinking behind the Albion players not turning out for their county? Insider knowledge?

There was a post here a month or two ago saying that it was on the cards, the local scuttlebutt says the same. I suspect that we will see some, but not all of the Cornish contingent.

AFAIK, Devon haven't fielded Albion players in recent years, but maybe that was because the division they were in didn't allow level 3 players (I'm not sure where that rule kicks in). Their Tamar Cup side (playing tonight) doesn't feature any.

Hmmm...... Yorkshire better hope their U20s don't get to the U20s Final again as a few of those are also in the U20s Squad (think the first County game v Cheshire clashes with the U20s Final)

Given Lancashire haven't won the competition since 2014, I would have thought there is a reasonable chance that they will be stopped again!

I stand corrected, there were none mentioned in the Devon team listed on the CRFU website. The point stands though, they didn't have the representation you'd expect from the senior (eligible) club in the county.

Thanks for the show of faith RoD, maybe you could pop down to training and explain to boys why we don't have a chance this season, or at least tell us your name so we can approach you and get a explanation, pretty easy to hide behind a keyboard.
