So, that concludes the thread.

Thank you all for your input. Spartacus, good effort, but you're no Goal Kicker.

Result at Caldy - Caldy 87 Chester 10- Chester were missing a few players and Caldy loaned them a Hooker to make the game competitive. I am not sure if the spat with the Norwiral league had an effect on Chester. Apparently Norwiral have thrown Chester 2nds out of the league for not playing against Sedgeley Park in the semi final of the Cup. The rule states that if a club does not fulfill a semi final then they are ejected from the leagues not just for this season but next season as well. It also relates to their 3rd XV as well, who are top of their league and have fulfilled all their fixtures. I feel that the rule is very draconian and would effectively mean that Chester would not have any meaningful fixtures for their 2nd and 3rd XV for over 12 months and could have a dramatic effect on them as a club. I believe that have appealed and they dispute that they were responsible for not fulfilling the fixture. We wait to see the outcome

WB, having read the announcement on the NOWIRUL site, your post seems pretty accurate. I'm told the club have appealed, but I don't know how likely we are in being successful or not.

After doing so well all season, I can only assume Saturday's result was affected by what is going on with the leauge.

I hope common sense prevails; losing both our seconds and thirds from the league would be a massive blow.

Great news if true. Nothing on the NOWIRUL or club sites yet, you got a link?

I saw on the Nowirul site that Chester will be allowed back in next season. However I also saw that Sale FCs results in Conference B have been expunged. Have they withdrawn from the Nowirul leagues?

Yes Sale are out of the conference B league after failing to fulfill another AWAY game that makes 5 this season, as the league was split the first two did not count in the conference , which I think is a mistake any cancellations should be carried over. I think Sale forget that when they cancel away games it does not just affect the players but the club would have prepared meals and staffed the bar for the afternoon a cost which will affect the smaller clubs. They have not endeared them selves to a number of clubs in recent years canceling both fixtures (if you cancel the first one then you have to switch your home one to away) this happened to Rossendale in the B Conference and Fylde in previous seasons. Last year thew were withdrawn but came back into the Premier League I hope that this will not happen again , that is if they want a second XV, which is effectively Sale Sharks 3rd XV.

So, we'll be allowed back in for next season, but I take it all results for this season will become void?

Sale have had problems with their seconds for a while, I seem to remember a thread from last season going into a bit more detail so I can only assume nothing has changed?

To be honest that is pretty shocking that Sale FC have cancelled 5  2nd xv fixtures in one season. I feel for those lads that do want to play 2nd xv at Sale but I think with that track record there is an inevitability that their ability to field a 2nd xv in future is highly unlikely.

Jimbojetset has vigorously and consistently championed Sale FC's distinct identity away from Sale Sharks on this forum which is to his credit but I think his vision for Sale FC maybe at variance with what Sale Sharks and Corp acq want re Sale FC. My issue with Sale FC is not that they are becoming subsumed by Sale Sharks it is their prerogative to run their club in any way their want, but rather that their message always seems to be at variance with the reality of the situation.

It is a pity. However perhaps Steve Diamond's grand vision of the Sale Sharks/FC combo as a Northern Rugby Powerhouse may instead produce benefits for Professional rugby rather than the Community game

Not quite sure what Chester have done to be ousted, but to my knowledge they've been exemplary in their attendance. Cecil is overstocked with talent to select from. Sale reneged on their Waterloo fixture only last weekend.

Great news Chester will be allowed back in. Great club and terrific set up.

I really like how they dont ring fence their 1xv and have fluid player movement between 1/2xv, while promoting their youth players.

Hopefully it will underpin their future successes and perhaps their 1st season in Nat 1

Thumbs Up

I went to the recent Friday night game under lights at Hare Lane between Chester's 2ndxv and Caldy 2ndxv. It was a terrific contest for a decent crowd to get behind. Caldy prevailed eventually but the defences and the endeavour of both sides were right up there. The game was played with terrific intensity and the result was in doubt for the majority of the game.

In my opinion the standard of rugby played by both sides was such that it was clear to see that with a bit more experience around them many players from either side could make the step up to level 4 or level 3 when required
