Garside has 3 clubs! Blues welcome 12 young Saints : Bedford Blues RFC (bedfordrugby.co.uk) Guess the Blues didn't want him. Don't think he featured in the friendlies.

I might have this wrong but did a player called Charles Geary sign for Ampthill for the upcoming season?

Weird one. He would definitely be above Ed Prowse in the Saints pecking order in the same position who’s looked a bit out of his depth at this level. I suspect he would’ve been our 3rd choice THP behind Paul and Barrett so would’ve barely featured and saints would prefer him to get more game time. Will come back to bite us if one those those guys gets injured! That initial list doesn’t seem to mean much. There are players on there that didn’t feature in pre season (Garside, Burns) and some that weren’t that have featured and are on our player profiles (Matthews, Hughes, Lichfield, Gillespie). Also hoping James Fish remains on loan as we desperately need a hooker

As far as I can see there is no mention of a Charles Geary on the Ampthill website.

Everything's very fluid this term (no surprise really). Tom Hudson was in Cov's squad a week or two back, now he's been listed as full-back for Ampthill tomorrow! I think we actually saw a few minutes of him, from memory. |

Well this hasn’t aged well as both of our tight heads are now injured. We already have an injury crisis in the forwards 20 mins into first game with 6 potential starters injured/unavailable at the moment...

Ealing sign centre Matt Gordon from Edinburgh. Ealing needs all the players.

This would make 44 senior players according to their website. As far as I can tell, Ealing has quietly dropped a few players from the squad such as Levi Davis, who actually featured in a couple of pre-season games but no longer is on the squad list.

'Adam Nicol from Glasgow & James Scott from Worcester to Jersey Reds - LINK' - why? After 2 losses from 3 matches Jersey will not make the play offs. Why not give their current squad game time or even some of the locally developing players- in a season with no relegation. Or is their injury situation that bad?

DRs Tom Doughty (hooker,24) and Willl Butt (centre,21) from Bath to Cov. Both direct injury replacements.
Two young players with good BUCS records. Centres obviously can be covered by other backs: hookers less so. Both on the bench for Cov's game versus Ampthill on Sunday. |

The aim is to be competitive and achieve the best possible finish. The play-off was probably a long-shot for the Reds b4 a ball was kicked, and you're right - certainly it is now. The injury situation is quite bad in some positions eg TH prop - we have 3 in the squad, and 2 are injured, and we need 2 to field a compliant squad. There's a gulf between the professional Championship and our amateur 2nd XV at any stage, let alone during the pandemic when the latter group haven't played any rugby at all for 13 months. Throwing in inexperienced, unconditioned players in any position would raise safety concerns, let alone in the front row...

Spending a career playing in the front row any loose head worth their salt can play at tight head and again the other way.... this point that a tight head can't fill in for loose head is driven at a coaching level.... At a refereeing level at the start of the game you are clearly asked can I speak with the from row and front row replacements..... regardless of your choice of position under the wider game you should be able to cover your mates when requited. If this philosophy was used at a club level, most clubs wouldn't need 3x tight heads ÷ x loose heads 2x hooker and probably another 9 front rows who could play when required in the seconds Allowed the clubs in lower levels not to scrmip and scrape for front rows and risk players safety who are not ready for said level
