Well technically Oli Robinson is a Blues Academy product that went to Newcastle, so he is probably living locally with his family one would guess! Another reason why he may be with us.

On the eve of Bedford Blues’ return to action, the Club are delighted to announce the re-signing of a further four players in the backs’ division. With just over 150 cumulative appearances; Pat Tapley, James Lennon, Oskar Hirskyj-Douglas and Will Maisey have all signed on the dotted line ahead of the 2021 campaign.

Hartpury & Jersey Twitter both disclose Nick Selway has joined the Students (A top lad who in St Ouens always welcome and forever carries an excess Salad allocation). Go well Nick.

Ivan van Zyl will join Saracens in June. He is a Springbok capped scrum half from the Blue Bulls.

Agreed, I'm not surprised Sth Africa haven't played since last World Cup final - probably can't raise a team. |

South Africa is a rugby factory. These players are economic migrants. I sympathize with them as South African born myself. However I don’t think it’s good for English rugby as it stifles home grown talent.

I have nothing against South African rugby players, I totally get your point Pappashanga . . but at the end of last season the clubs had to play youngsters as there were so many games and look at the talent that emerged . . they just need rugby . . but it always seems clubs prefer a foreign player rather than trusting one of their own youngsters . . it does not happen in NZ!

Without starting a massive Brexit debate.
I was of the understanding that the rules for registration in 21/22 season on overseas players changes. The Kolpak ruling is a European Court of Justice ruling handed down on 8 May 2003 It declared that citizens of countries which have signed European Union Association Agreements have the same right to freedom of work and movement within the EU as EU citizens We are no longer in the EU so I thought that South African players and even those with European passports will have a massive issue getting work permits and registered. Can anybody shed some light on this, or will the RFU wait till Aug 31st to announce?

This partially explains, ultimately I think it means bad news for some clubs with multiple overseas players. From the Telegraph.
The Rugby Football Union has written into its regulations that both players from the EU and Kolpaks will retain their status for the remainder of this season. It is working to determine what arrangements need to be put in place, including holding discussions with the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.

So my point being how can clubs sign these players now
When they have no idea of the rules and regs for the 21/22 season |

Probably as they are professional players so providing they meet the status they are free to work in the UK same as a banker/doctor etc.

Presumably the new visa regulations will be a points based system, which will allow players who have played a minimum number of international games and look are the need for people to come in where there is a shortage of people required. This could be countered by the development of Home game players and will this deny them a a prospect employment within the game. Any points based system will affect journeyman overseas players at lower levels especially if the RFU limit the number of overseas players in a match day squad.

This really needs a separate thread, so those interested in who has been signed, rather than circular gossip can find it.
