The Times have just produced an article on the 50 best places to watch sport in the UK and Ireland in 2019.

The element relating to rugby makes interesting reading for those of us that live "Up North".

You can register for The Times without giving them any money and having done so you get 1 or 2 articles a week - and if you do that, i'd recommend you use your allowance on this excellent article.

Threshfield/The Avenue is a special venue, one of the ones (maybe a dozen in total) of these 50 I've been lucky to go to. But there are some omissions: Kingsholm (rugby) & Goodwood (racing) are both included, but if you draw a straight line between those venues, there's only one venue west of that line, which is The Rec in Bath. Missing out rugby in Cornwall, and gig racing in the Scillies, seems like a major oversight. I'd also nominate Exmouth CC, one of the loveliest cricket grounds I've been to. Our touring pub-standard team once got a fixture there; fortunately we lost the toss and were invited to field while their Aussie pro/groundsman tuned up for the Devon League match two days later by knocking off a quick ton as they compiled 260-ish for 2 wickets (both caught on the boundary by two of the couple of people in our side who could catch). There were quite a few spectators there as well, who were charged a fee (50p I think) for a deck-chair and scorecard so they could follow this mis-match, which concluded with Exmouth sharing a couple of dozen overs between their least capable bowlers and allowing us to crawl just past a hundred!

Sorry - wandered off-topic a bit there!
