Good on them for being transparent and not playing "games" with their squad.

I don't know the ins and outs or even if it has happened but Simon Verbickas has been at Caldy for 4 years and has been successful there. I doubt relegation from National 1 was a factor but perhaps the need to consider a fresh approach came into it. Caldy have a number of exciting coaching talents that have developed within the club over the last few years and I am sure some of these guys would have been looking for progression.

There is an inevitability that coaches move on and having re watched 'On any given Sunday' again last night I would not be surprised to see Simon Verbickas being successful at another North West club

I heard a whisper in April that Verbickas might be moving on. I wonder where he'll end up 🤔

Was pushed. Bizarre decision. Last game finishes three minutes earlier and they stay up which given the budget constraints highlighted by plenty on here would’ve surely been some achievement.

62 points would have seen them survive every year accept 2011, when Redruth went down with the same number of points.

The weird thing was Cambridge needed someone to score in that last minute at Birmingham, but a score for either side would have done us. A Caldy score would have denied Moseley a bonus point and condemned them.

It was a very tough league. Loughborough scored 19 try bonuses and the fourth highest number of points for.

I have no formal news of Simon's departure but I have have heard the same chat that others have on the matter and I do not know whether Simon's departure (if it has happened) was occasioned by himself or Caldy.

If his departure was at Caldy's behest I doubt whether his departure was at all connected to relegation because as a club Caldy do not operate like that. It is more likely that his contract was at an end and Caldy decided to undertake a fresh approach and go in a different direction.

Caldy's forwards were immense last season but other than Nick Royle they didn't quite have the cutting edge in their backs to go with a strong forward platform. That would be an area to address from a coaching perspective and as it was Simon Verbickas's particular expertise maybe that could be a contributing factor.

Simon is a talented guy but in any coaching leadership role there comes a time for everyone to be refreshed and this was probably the right time regardless of whether Caldy stayed in National 1 or not. If such a decision has been made by Caldy I would have expected such a decision to be made even if Caldy had kept Moseley out for the last two minutes of their game and thus keeping Caldy in National 1.

I am sure Simon will be equally successful elsewhere and I expect he will be snapped up by another ambitious club pretty quickly.
